Immigration

Much has been spoken for and against the presence of illegal aliens in the US. Michelle Malkin writes about those American citizens who were killed by an illegal alien. President Bush states "we're talking about human beings, decent human beings that need to be treated with respect."

Obviously, both are right in part. Many have entered the US to find a better way of life. Many have entered the US to disrupt our better way of life as common criminals, to take over all or a portion of our land as reconquest or to kill us all because we do not practice their type of religion.

We are reminded that we are a nation of immigrants and that this has been the basis of our strength--one out of many.

I accept the immigration of persons from varying backgrounds who want to become Americans. I want our borders protected to prevent illegal entry of all, specifically those who do not wish to join our national family but to do harm in some way. I believe that respect for our laws against illegal entry or overstaying a legal and time limited entry permit is a key ingredient for becoming a citizen.

The need for "guest workers" is touted as a true need for our economy. What I have not heard is how these "guests" will be treated as far as compensation. Will they continue to receive substandard wages so they undercut Americans who would willingly work at menial jobs if paid a decent wage? Will the "guests" have protections such as insurance if they are injured on the job or will they continue to be dependent on publicly funded social programs? Will current laws against employing illegal, undocumented persons be enforced or simply forgotten? We hear that fines, back taxes etc will be demanded as a means for illegal aliens to become documented as "guest workers". What will be their status as far as Social Security is concerned? Will they become eligible even though they never attain citizenship?

Is the "guest worker" program truly humane in the ways the guests will be treated?

Is the guest worker program humane as it affects Americans who are undereducated and unskilled?

Issues such as guest worker status and the appropriate level of immigration are controversial, causing dissent within ideological factions. Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and John Cornyn (R-TX) and Representative James R. Ryun (R-KS) are advancing a proposal that should unite warring factions and help to strengthen our country.A Possibly Unifying Immigration Proposal: "I take this oath solemnly, freely, and without any mental reservation. I absolutely and entirely renounce all allegiance to any foreign state or power of which I have been a subject or citizen. My fidelity and allegiance from this day forward are to the United States of America. I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution and laws of the United States, and will support and defend them against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I will bear arms, or perform noncombatant military or civilian service, on behalf of the United States when required by law. This I do solemnly swear, so help me God."

Media Standards

OpinionJournal - Featured Article: "The press is also inventing a preposterous double standard that is supposed to help us all distinguish between bad leaks (the Plame name) and virtuous leaks (whatever Ms. McCarthy might have done). Washington Post executive editor Leonard Downie has put himself on record as saying Ms. McCarthy should not 'come to harm' for helping citizens hold their government accountable. Of the Plame affair, by contrast, the Post's editorial page said her exposure may have been an 'egregious abuse of the public trust.'
It would appear that the only relevant difference here is whose political ox is being gored, and whether a liberal or conservative journalist was the beneficiary of the leak. That the press sought to hound Robert Novak out of polite society for the Plame disclosure and then rewards Ms. Priest and Mr. Risen with Pulitzers proves the worst that any critic has ever said about media bias."

IRAQ THE MODEL

A must read!

IRAQ THE MODEL: "Kill us, but you won't enslave us."

I Clean Toilets Too!

Dustin Hawkins states several points about illegal immigration

The Myth

"that American citizens are lazy. Well, too lazy to do “real” work, anyway. For starters, any job an “illegal” does I do on a regular basis. I do my own yard work, clean my own pool, wash my own clothes, walk my own dog, build my own deck, and clean my own dishes."

The Facts

"Americans will do any job (yes, any job) if they are paid proper, competitive wages.

Without the illegal immigrants, the laws of economics would kick in and require that businesses pay the proper wages for the job that the business wishes to get done."

The Question

"If Mexicans are the hardest-working people on Earth – and according to the pro-amnesty politicians, Mexicans are much harder working than Americans – then why can’t they work to make their country better."

An ugly reality

One of the writer's I admire is Thomas Sowell. He does not rely on rants snd name calling but clearly states his reasoning.

"Europe has already been through this 'guest worker' policy that we are being urged to follow. They have learned the hard way what it means to have a growing foreign population in their midst -- a population that insists on remaining foreign and hostile to the culture, values and people around them. "

Today's immigrant activists and the politicians who kowtow to them have just the opposite agenda, to keep foreigners foreign and to make other Americans accept and adjust to that. It will be a national tragedy if they succeed.

IF THE LANGUAGE FITS, USE IT..

On CNN's "Lou Dobbs Tonight" on Monday, Dobbs was interviewing Nativo Lopez, president of the Mexican-American Political Association about his demand for "full immediate, unconditional legalization for all persons currently in the United States."

Dobbs posed this innocuous question about Lopez's planned boycott, "You're talking about a boycott of all illegal aliens in this country?"

Lopez exploded: "Well, first off, I refute your terminology. You don't say 'kike,' 'patty,' 'WOP,' OK. You don't say 'nigger'! ... You're using language that's offensive to me and offensive to my people! ... You pollute the air every day, Dobbs. ... That language is offensive, it's derogatory, it's denigrating, and don't use that terminology to me again, referring to my people!" Source

Merriam -Webster Dictionary defines ALIEN as relating, belonging, or owing allegiance to another country or government : FOREIGN
and ILLEGAL as "not according to or authorized by law : UNLAWFUL, ILLICIT; also : not sanctioned by official rules (as of a game)"

Not only do many of the ILLEGAL ALIENS choose not to learn our national language, they do not want us to use accurate words in our language.

If I leave these United States and am in another country, I am an alien. If I break the other countries laws concerning my presence in that nation, I am illegal!
These are not racial slurs. Use of accurate terminology does not make me a bigot.

I welcome LEGAL IMMIGRANTS and wish that so many who have applied through LEGAL MEANS will soon have the opportunity to begin citizenship pathways in these United States. I have no preference to a country of origin, ethnicity or religion. I welcome those who want to become assimilated by learning our language, history and responsibility of citizenship.

MENACE IN MEXICO By DICK MORRIS - New York Post Online Edition: postopinion

On July 2, the Mexican people will decide whether to elect ultra-leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (known as AMLO) as their next president.

Rumors have abounded for months that Lopez Obrador's campaign is getting major funding from Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. And last month Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz)., a moderate Republican, told several Mexican legislators that he had intelligence reports detailing revealing support from Hugo Chavez to AMLO's Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD).

Lopez Obrador has attacked U.S. attempts to restrict Mexican immigration and will benefit tremendously if Congress alienates the Mexican electorate. A recent survey by John Zogby found that two-thirds of Mexicans feel Americans are racist and biased against them. A harsh shift in U.S. immigration policies could fuel a leftist victory in Mexico. Most observers see feel the race will be between Lopez Obrador and Calderon. While the PAN candidate would be no puppet of the United States, he is fully committed to free market economics and wants a close relationship with our country. Lopez Obrador would be part of the Latin America's new, anti-U.S. left in.
MENACE IN MEXICO By DICK MORRIS - New York Post Online Edition: postopinion: "But Mexico, with its vast oil resources and its long border and free-trade agreement with the United States, would be the crown jewel for America's enemies. We have only to hope that Congress won't pass legislation that alienates the Mexican electorate and delivers the country into AMLO's hands."

HUMAN EVENTS ONLINE - Exclusive: The Truth About 'La Raza' by Rep. Charlie Norwood

HUMAN EVENTS ONLINE - Exclusive: The Truth About 'La Raza' by Rep. Charlie Norwood: "But the National Council of La Raza succeeded in raking in over $15.2 million in federal grants last year alone, of which $7.9 million was in U.S. Department of Education grants for Charter Schools, and undisclosed amounts were for get-out-the-vote efforts supporting La Raza political positions.

The Council of La Raza succeeded in having itself added to congressional hearings by Republican House and Senate leaders. And an anonymous senator even gave the Council of La Raza an extra $4 million in earmarked taxpayer money, supposedly for 'housing reform,' while La Raza continues to lobby the Senate for virtual open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens. "

MEChA and the La Raza movement teach that Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and parts of Washington State make up an area known as "Aztlan" -- a fictional ancestral homeland of the Aztecs before Europeans arrived in North America. As such, it belongs to the followers of MEChA. These are all areas America should surrender to "La Raza" once enough immigrants, legal or illegal, enter to claim a majority, as in Los Angeles. The current borders of the United States will simply be extinguished. This plan is what is referred to as the "Reconquista" or reconquest, of the Western U.S.

Jobs Americans Won't Do?

USA - The New Media Journal.us: "An Alabama employment agency that sent 70 laborers and construction workers to job sites in that state in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina says the men were sent home after just two weeks on the job by employers who told them 'the Mexicans had arrived' and were willing to work for less. Linda Swope, who operates Complete Employment Services Inc. in Mobile, Ala., told The Washington Times last week that the workers -- whom she described as U.S. citizens, residents of Alabama and predominantly black -- had been 'urgently requested' by contractors hired to rebuild and clear devastated areas of the state, but were told to leave three job sites when the foreign workers showed up."

The winning Republican message in '06

Townhall.com :: Columns :: The winning Republican message in '06 by Ben Shapiro - Apr 12, 2006: "If Republicans want to win in 2006, they must emphasize this simple message: Judge the Democrats by their friends. They protect terrorists for political expediency; they protect illegal immigrants for political expediency; they protect Islamofascists in Iraq for political expediency; they protect those who do not work at the expense of those who do for political expediency; they protect radical abortion and homosexuality advocates for political expediency. Americans may be unhappy with Republicans, but Republicans must make clear that the alternative is a country run by those who consistently side with enemies of the American people. "

Townhall.com :: Columns :: Immigration "solutions" by Thomas Sowell - Apr 11, 2006: "In the wars that this country fought, immigrant groups were among the most patriotic volunteers, earning the respect of American citizens on the battlefield with their blood and their lives.
Today, immigrant spokesmen promote grievances, not gratitude, much less patriotism. Moreover, many native-born Americans also promote a sense of separatism and grievance and, through 'multi-culturalism,' strive to keep immigrants foreign and disaffected. "

No Border, No Nation

No Border, No Nation by James Atticus Bowden - The New Media Journal.us: "There's a reason why we Americans don't speak Pictish. There's a reason why the present government of the United States of America serves an American Nation built from an American Civilization that is based on American Culture, instead of the Picts. There's a reason why most Americans speak English, at least for now. The Picts couldn't keep their borders. The Picts were destroyed. No one mourns. No one cares."

"What to do about illegal aliens already here is irrelevant if the borders stay open. There will be millions and millions more regardless of what is done – or not. It just doesn’t matter if the border isn’t controlled.
How much longer will The People wait on the government that they elect to act? If we wait too long, we go the way of the Picts. If we act resolutely, we can survive another seven centuries or so. If and when the government defends every border and controls immigration, the tough issues can be answered."

My Open Letter To Congress

Immigration reform without amnesty for those here illegally is vitally important for the security and health of our nation.

I am for legal immigration of individuals who want to become American as demonstrated by their willingness to obey our laws, learn our history and language and assimilate into our national family. I truly admire those who wait years to enter legally and yearn to become true Americans. Immigrants strengthen our nation.

A bill designed to enforce our borders, using and funding all of the technology and manpower needed, must be passed now. The methods of dealing with illegal aliens already present should be carefully considered and not tied to the defense of our borders.

I am against rewarding the illegal aliens with any form of amnesty. Obviously we cannot deport millions of illegal aliens with ease so Congress must come up with policies and laws that will encourage people to return to their home countries to apply through legal steps for immigration to the USA. Increase legal immigration opportunities to allow a diverse cross section of good people to immigrate to include unskilled as well as skilled or highly educated immigrants.

The way to encourage illegal aliens to return home can be accomplished by making
it a felony to be here without documents. This felony will require deportation and make the individual ineligible for a work permit, green card, visa and any hope of a path to citizenship. Entering the US without appropriate documents or remaining here with expired documents will automatically invoke this penalty.. Pass the law, widely announce and explain the law and the date it will be put into effect. Stop granting citizenship to babies born here to parents who are non citizens For those who have dependent children who are citizens, issue work permits with no path to citizenship.. This is humane in that families would not be split up but would not reward illegal entry with amnesty.
Legal extensions of work permits, green cards or visas should be available for just cause but for limited periods of time.

While most Americans believe immigration is desirable, it must be done legally. If they disrespect our laws, in my opinion, they are not the best candidates for citizenship. If we continue to reward illegal immigration with another form of amnesty we will only reinforce the belief that if persons can get into the US and stay long enough they will eventually gain legality through the next amnesty program.

The recent mass demonstrations with placards and flags demonstrating loyalty to other nations show that many are not willing to assimilate and feel the citizens of the USA owe them the perks of citizenship. Unless we control who is in the USA, we will soon have the problems seen in Europe with their unassimilated masses of people.

Any bill dealing with illegal aliens must also include harsh penalties for those who assist in the illegal entry. Humanitarian aid of feeding and temporary housing should not be penalized. Assistance in longer term housing and hiding should be penalized. Employment of illegal aliens should also be harshly penalized.

Zones in which illegal aliens may not be asked regarding the legal status should not be permitted. All government agencies including schools, law enforcement, and social services should be able to ascertain legal status and report any undocumented person to the Immigration Service for follow up. Emergency medical care would be provided, but undocumented persons reported to Immigration.

Documents must be as fraud proof as possible using the appropriate technology to accomplish this. Employers must retain copies of such documents. Social Security Cards must indicate non citizen status. Employers should continue to pay the FISA taxes as they do on citizens in order to prevent them from preferring non citizens to save money. Non citizens would not pay FISA taxes and would be ineligible for any benefits. Federal and state income taxes would be withheld as is done for citizens. IRS filing for refund or additional taxes would be done as it is with citizens.

I am mystified as to why members of congress are hesitant to pass sterner laws such as making the misdemeanor into a felony with some teeth. Why must our nation be soft on illegal immigration? Encourage legal admission, increase numbers of legal slots for immigrants, welcome and assist legal immigrants with civics and language courses but punish those who refuse to follow our laws.

As a voting citizen I will reward those who have the backbone to protect our nation and enforce our laws. I have little respect for members of congress whose priority is re-election and party politics. We need statesmen who first of all protect the interests of citizens and do not pander to those here illegally.

Rights of Illegals in Mexico

Illegal aliens demand their rights in our nation. Interesting to see how Mexico, a source of the majority of persons sneaking over our Southern border, treat illegal aliens and even naturalized citizens. Illegal aliens from Mexico surely did not learn of rights in their own country.

We could perhaps learn something. http://www.centerforsecuritypolicy.org/Mexicos_Glass_House.pdf

Latinos Plan Nationwide Worker Strike

Latinos Plan Nationwide Worker Strike: "Mexican American Political Association (MAPA) President Nativo Lopez, one of the organizers of the recent protests in Los Angeles that saw at least 500,000 people take to the streets, said the May 1 'day without Latinos would send a stern message to Washington."

While I support immigration, I want it to follow our laws. It really irks me to see the disrepect for our laws and the stern message a group of illegal immigrants believe they have the right to send to Washington. The more they wave alien flags and demand their rights in our nation, the more opposed I become to allowing them to stay in the USA.
