An Interesting Idea

Thought you all might be interested, too! This was sent to me by an old
tax-hating associate. Cheers

Paul S. Sarbanes
309 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington DC, 2051

Dear Senator Sarbanes,

As a native Marylander and excellent customer of the Internal
Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have
contacted the Immigration and Naturalization Service in an effort to
determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to
you.

My reasons for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to
illegal alien stem from the bill which was recently passed by the
Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions
is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for
five years, what I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000
fine and income taxes for three of the last five years.

I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the
process started before everyone figures it out. Simply put, those of us
who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm
excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of the last five yea rs
taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can
apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent return
for me and my family because we paidheavy taxes in 2004 and 2005 and
I estimated a gross savings approximating $72,000. After
the fine this would yield me a net savings of $70,000.

In addition, I would reap the other benefits of being an
illegal alien such as free healthcare, avoidance of paying Social
Security taxes, buying automobile insurance, serving on jury panels,
etc.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to
become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary
forms, I would be most appreciative. Thank you f or your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent,

Pete M

Tancredo Responds to Latest Pence Immigration Plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO), Chairman of the 104-member House Immigration Reform Caucus, expressed disappointment at Rep. Mike Pence’s latest iteration of his immigration plan that he announced at a press conference this morning with Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Pence has announced at least two prior versions of his immigration proposal, and this morning’s version continues to include a “guest” worker plan that does not require “guest” workers ever to leave the U.S., while at the same time it allows them to bring their families. The plan allows employers and private temporary work agencies – both of which have economic incentives to keep the flow of foreign labor coming – to determine the number of foreign workers who will be admitted into the U.S. for the first three years of the plan.

“Having employers which have already broken the law determine the number of cheap foreign workers that will be admitted into the U.S. is a classic example of the fox guarding the hen house,” said Tancredo. “I have never had a guest who, after staying awhile, demanded to move into my house permanently. No plan that allows temporary workers to stay permanently is a ‘guest’ worker plan.”

The Rule of Law Is Based on Numbers by James Atticus Bowden

"Illegal Immigration may decide if the Nation, as described in Lincolns Gettysburg Address, will die sooner rather than later. Government of the people, by the people, for the people, can only exist under the Rule of Law.
If the current Immigration laws on the books are not enforced then the Rule of Law is mocked. The Rule of Law requires a minimum number of 1 for 1 President who will enforce the borders and maintain our sovereignty against an illegal immigrant invasion."

American Contrasts

Americans travel to countries despite State Department warnings. Thousands in Lebanon are now dependent on our government to get them out of danger. Are they grateful? One young man whining about the trip to safety as poorly organized. He had to sleep on the floor of the ship and there was no food during the eight hour trip.
The inhumanity of it all. Pampered Americans require far more elegant means to get them out of the danger they were forewarned about. Sheesh!

I cannot help but compare this apparently healthy young man who was not pleased with his travel arrangements to the men and women who serve in our military. Spoiled, thankless youth depending on someone to get him to safety vs. our troops who experience heat, exhaustion, real danger and yet serve to defend us. I thank God for our brave military.

Prayers Please

I have written before about my niece's husband. He received a Jarvik device some months ago to assist in keeping him alive while waiting for a heart transplant. This morning my niece Emailed me with the following request.

"D has been in Yale for the past 6 weeks listed in critical, but stable condition. The Jarvik device is damaging his blood cells causing a critically low hematocrit level. In a normal male it's between 45-50. Danny's is 18. The hematocrit is the blood density, and the density carries oxygen to all parts of your body.

There is a donor heart in North Carolina and Danny is the on standby as the secondary recipient, if for any reason the primary recipient can't receive the heart. We've been hovering now for the past 13 hours waiting for word if Danny will receive it. They've prepped him (and starved him) since 4:30 a.m. this morning. Its been an emotional rollercoaster ride, to say the least.

The most loving and giving thing you can do for him and for us is to pray that he receives a successful transplant soon.

Thank you for your prayers and friendship."

Seeing Today's Immigrants Straight

Heather Mac Donald has written the most comprehensive article I have read regarding immigration.

Principle 1: Respect the law.
Principle 2: Protect sovereignty.
Principle 3: Support law enforcement.
Principle 4: Pay attention to facts on the ground.
Principle 5: Prefer local decision makers over remote elites."

In Mortal Danger

Tom Tancredo stands for prevention of illegal aliens invading our nation. He cites the impact on ordinary American citizens who at one time lived with unlocked doors in rural areas, who enjoyed living in Houston, who had aavailable health care in their communities or earned a living wage to support their families. He writes about multiculturism run amok when books in English are thrown out to make room for books in Spanish in the Denver Public Library System. The fallacy that there are jobs Americans won't do really translates to jobs that pay too little to suppport a family accustomed to the basic comforts Americans expect such as appropriate shelter, food, medical care and education.

This nation is made up of many immigrants and the descendents of earlier immigrants who had a real zeal for becoming American. Although these immigrants brought much of their culture with them and spoke their native tongue at home they worked to learn the common language of English and to actually become part of the American fabric. He believes, as do I, that this has led to our strength and that reasonable legal immigration will continue to nourish this nation and add value to our country.

Tancredo writes of meeting with American students who are timid in indicating they have patriotism for the USA while other students overtly express their feelings of American guilt over all of the bad this nation has done. Curriculumn has changed so much since I was in school and our young Americans are no longer taught of the birth of our nation, the motivation of our founding fathers and the struggles this nation has had to develop and maintain the rights we enjoy. There is no evidence of the progress we have made as we strive for true equality of all Americans despite ethnicity or gender.

The failure of our government, both federal and local, to enforce the current laws are responsible for the influx of illegal aliens. This illegal group is made of a variety of people. There are those who would be welcomed into our neighborhoods if they followed our laws, who would have strong families, work hard and function as previous immigrants have over our history. Unfortuneatly too many others are entering along with this group.

Most of us are aware of the group M13 and we fear Islamofacists may enter over our poorly guarded borders. I did not know that Hezbollah was in Mexico. I did not know of the groups of "unofficial" persons known as Madrinas who do whatever illegal activity pays them well. They may make money working with the Mexican government with untraceable and deniable relationship or work for the drug cartels. They may be in uniform as Mexican military and cross the border into our country. When these incursions of Mexicans in military uniform, with military weapons and vehicles are seen and reported, the Mexican government denies any military in the area. I was aware that there is much corruption in governments of all countries. I did not realize the amount in our own immigration system.

I wondered about a provision in the Senate bill that prevented sharing of information between government agencies but learned this has been longstanding. Persons currently charged with approving worker visas or application for citizenship may consider individuals who another agency has flagged as on a watch list. The person who must decide is unable to find out what another American agency such as law enforcement is concerned about. Thus many with criminal background or terrorist ties are rubberstamped and granted the visa or taken into the citizenship path.

If you have not read Representative Tancredo's book, I highly recommend it.

IRAQI'S VIEW OF THE ISRAELI/PALESTINIAN CONFLICT

If you did not read Iraq The Model yesterday, hasten over there.

"Actually it's a compilation of selected reactions of more than a dozen (out of hundreds) people to one of the hot topics of these days which is the kidnapping of Israeli tank-gunner Gilad Shalit and the Israeli military operation in Gaza strip in the attempt to free him.

The reactions I gathered were posted on an Arabic forum on the BBC Arabic website. About three dozens of comments were made by Iraqis both inside Iraq and in exile and all these comments were supportive of Israel or at least against Hamas as far as the topic is concerned except for only three comments; that's a 10:1 ratio while as you probably have guesses, the opposite ratio is true about the comments by the rest of Arabs.
These comments and some of the non-Iraqi Arab reactions they stimulated caught my attention.
In fact Mohammed and I spent an entire day reading through the 500+ comments in that thread and thought we could share some of the best and most interesting stuff with you.

"IRAQ THE MODEL:

Protecting Americans Illegal Aliens

Government seems to continually work against Americans who are trying to safeguard our nation. The Minutemen are trying to put up barriers to prevent illegal aliens from entering US private property. That however seems to intimidate some local officials who are afraid their power is being usurped.

"In response to a plan by the Minuteman Project to construct an Israeli-style border barrier on private land near Naco, the Cochise County Planning Department is advising area ranchers that any such project must comply with county zoning rules.

In a communiqu/ issued last week, the Minutemen announced they would begin constructing an Israeli-style security fence at an Arizona ranch in early July. The anti-illegal immigration group is currently overseeing the construction of a barbed-wire range fence on the border-front property of Jack and John Ladd in Palominas. Speaking at the May 27 groundbreaking for the Ladd’s fence, Minuteman leader Chris Simcox said his group was eyeing a property 4 1/2 miles east of Naco for its next effort.

Using that information, Cochise County Supervisor Paul Newman and Planning Director Judy Anderson drafted a letter to two local property owners asking for clarification."

“We have certain zoning regulations in place, and we need to apply them consistently and fairly to everybody,” Anderson said. “So we may need to make a determination about whether this fence actually meets our exemption for fences in rural areas.”

Despite the laws currently on the books, we find that government makes policies in direct opposition to the law. Funded by taxpayer funds, illegal aliens are granted safe harbor and provided a center for day labor.

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has expanded its investigation of government sponsored incentive programs for illegal aliens by filing a “Texas Public Information Act Request” with the Houston Police Department (HPD), and another with the City of Houston. The HPD request relates to General Order 500-5, a so-called “sanctuary policy” for illegal aliens, while the City of Houston request relates to the city’s taxpayer-funded day laborer site for illegal aliens. HPD General Order 500-5, issued in 1992 by then-Police Chief Sam Nuchia, reportedly prevents Houston police officers from asking about an individual’s citizenship status or detaining illegal aliens. Meanwhile, Houston’s day laborer site, which is supported with federal funds from the Community Development Block Grant Program, reportedly provides assistance to illegal aliens seeking jobs. “Publicly-funded incentive programs for illegal aliens not only make the illegal immigration problem worse, but they are also flagrantly illegal,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “It is a violation of federal law to hire an illegal alien. It is a violation of federal law to encourage an illegal alien to cross the border. It is certainly a violation of federal law for government officials to use federal funds to support illegal activity. Judicial Watch will thoroughly investigate Houston’s illegal alien policies and may take further legal action.”

Gore's Grave New World

Marc Sheppard writes an interesting opinion piece on Gore's mentor reconsidering global warming and warning look before you leap. Read the whole saga of Gore's attempts to manipulate the media to discredit a scientist who disagrees with him.

"'So, effectively, Gore's intimidation tactics over the course of the last decade and a half have achieved his desired goal through a menacing combination of politics, words and financial control.'"

An Editor I Agree With

"A survey conducted by Cornell University recently found that around half of Americans have a negative view of Islam and would like the US government to curtail the political activity of Muslims in the US. "
"...the Council on American-Islamic Relations would be launching a massive $50 million media campaign involving television, radio and newspapers as part of its five-year program to create a better understanding of Islam and Muslims in the US."

Editor's Note: Perhaps if CAIR spent that money in Islamic countries in an effort to educate the people on how it is completely unacceptable for Muslims to embrace or tolerate honor killings, the use of terror, beheadings, the proliferation of hate and intolerance toward anyone who does not embrace Islam and the notion that Islam should be the prevailing religion in the world, perhaps then the West wouldn't see their religion as barbaric and seated smack-dab in the middle of the 7th Century.

America the Beautiful

These lyrics will remain on top through July 4th and I will comment on one or more stanzas each day.

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife.
Who more than self the country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America ! America !
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life !
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

Katharine Lee Bates - 1913

Till nobler men keep once again

America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

Dear God, I pray for the nobler men to lead our nation and may those of us who are not elected to lead offer our noble support. May we realize our need to remain truly united so that this nation will not cease being the land of the free and the home of the brave.

We Need Fewer Secrets

According to Jimmy Carter in today's WAPO. " Our government leaders have become increasingly obsessed with secrecy. Obstructionist policies and deficient practices have ensured that many important public documents and official actions remain hidden from our view."

Golly Jimmy, why might they be concerned with keeping secrets? Could it possibly be because we are at war with an insidious enemy who is determined to destroy us? Do you really think you could do a better job? The secrets that have been leaked by a press more concerned with getting a scoop than the safety of Americans seem to be the things a responsible government would do. Of course, you seem to delight in blabbing about how bad my nation is, especially when you can heap praise on governments and tyrants that suppress their people.

Why don't you keep your views secret? That would be a lot more helpful. Just stop undermining the USA and let our currently elected leaders work to keep us safe. In case you are unaware, you are no longer in a leadership position. As a leader you were not effective, now you are merely destructive.

For Heroes proved In liberating strife

O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife.
Who more than self the country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

We are so blessed to have and to have had the many who make up the military of America. Currently we have so many of our troops who willingly return for a second or third time to Iraq and Afghanistan for the 'liberating strife' needed to free millions of people from brutal regimes. The nobleness of the mission is seldom given any media attention but I do believe it is noble to free our brothers and sisters who have experienced such depraved leaders. I honor those who fought to defend our nation in wars long past to guard the freedom and liberty as I honor our current military. May God bless their efforts to allow two nations to experience democracy and liberty.

America! God mend thine every flaw

America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

Yes, we have many flaws. We have so many citizens who do not seem to care about our history. They want to eliminate God from everything since they refuse to admit that all of our freedoms and blessings flow from God. Our founding fathers knew this and it was very apparent in the America I grew up in. God was still permitted in schools and in public meetings. God was not defined as in my personal faith. We had Christian and Jewish leaders pray. Congress and the Supreme Court opened with non denominational prayer. God's presence was welcomed in so many places by so many people. We sang religious music, some of the world's greatest classics in High School chorus. Now we have allowed the WALL to separate God from His people in most areas of life. We turn our back on Him. It is a time for people of all faiths to once again call upon His name and pray for the strength and insight to choose leaders who will once again allow our religious faiths to rise up and regain the freedom to practice our faith free of restraint. It is time to recognize our total dependence on God's continuing guidance to preserve our nation and to stop the downward spiral we are currently experiencing.
