Immigration--My View

-
Comprehensive immigration reform is definitely needed. I understand the desire of non citizens to live in the United States for the economic and social benefits. I agree that all of our families immigrated at some previous time. I believe the strength of the United States has always been that we welcomed others to join with us as citizens in this great land. Let us then increase the number of legal slots for those who wish to become citizens. Perhaps a path to citizenship for persons who broke our laws to enter the United States is necessary since deportation of all persons here illegally would be difficult, expensive and probably doomed to failure. It seems that the Senate is proposing a method for the persons here illegally to register, pay a fine or back taxes to obtain some temporary permit to stay and work here. They could apply for an extension of the working permit or apply for a green card and begin the path for citizenship. This sounds reasonable in that the government would have the opportunity to find out who is here illegally as well as allow desperate people a chance to live without fear of immediate deportation if they are identified.

Registration for the work permit will give the government time to do background checks to determine if they are worthy of entry. Those who are proven to be unworthy of living in the United States would then be deported.

Increased border security to intercept more persons entering illegally will obviously slow the numbers coming in. Until enough border guards are hired and trained, use the national guard to stop the flow of illegal entry.

A date certain should be determined to make presence in the US without a permit, green card or current visa a felony leading to deportation. Anyone who commits this felony would not only be deported but would be forever ineligible to obtain a visa, work permit or green card to enter legally. This would encourage those already here illegally to register for the aforementioned work permit. It might discourage those who attempt to enter illegally to decide to apply through legal channels for permission to enter rather than sneaking into the country and forever ruining any chance they have of being able to come to the United States.

The path to citizenship must include the need to learn to read, write and speak English. Elimination of interpreters, bilingual legal documents etc. must be phased out over a definite period of years. Spend the funds currently in use for all of the non English accommodations that have been developed over the years to teach English. Those here on work permits will have sufficient time to learn. If they do not choose to become literate in English, they cannot move on toward citizenship. The goal is to assimilate as Americans. They may use their native tongue at home, in their social and religious activities but will use our national language in interacting with the general public and in all official duties and privileges as a citizen.

Empolyers who hire someone without a permit or green card should be responsible for the costs associated with the deportation hearings and the deportation of the person who is here illegally.

This is humane while strengthening our laws. If we do not get to a point where immigration laws are truly strong and enforced, our nation will be overtaken by persons who do not value our history and form of government and have no desire to assimilate. Terrorists, anarchists and common criminals will wreak havoc throughout our land.

An Obituary

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense.Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge). His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. - Reports of asix-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge financial settlement.Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on; if not, join the majority and do nothing

Educator In Chief

I have watched three days of President Bush talking to the nation. I am energized to post once again as I see President Bush talk both to various citizens and the white house reporters. He has done a good job of explaining his decisions, current concerns and his optimism. The non reporter groups belie the numbers cited in the polls that indicate the majority of the public no longer support the president. A standing ovations is not usual if you have no faith in the speaker. Of the attendees at his speeches and press conferences I could not help but note the civility and quality of the questions asked by the general public. At least some people really want to elicit a truthful response from the questions and not merely attempt to embarrass the president or somehow work their personal agenda into the questioning. My only regret is that the meetings are not aired in prime time when the working public would have a chance to watch. The clips on the news are far too limiting for the viewer to sense the total response of the persons attending the speeches

Iran Wants To Talk To US

Who's really in the swamp?
'According to this BBC report and this AP story, AbdulAziz al-Hakeem called for talks between Iran and the US over the situation in Iraq in what I view as an armature maneuver from Tehran to find an escape from her conflict with the international community.'

Mohammed, of Iraq The Model, shares his insight on Iran's call for talks with the US. READ MORE

Is this an attempt to silence her free speech?

If anyone knows why this occured, please enlighten me.

Amnesty For All????

Hillary Clinton's Immigration Flip-flop: "'I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants,' Clinton said in a Feb. 2003 radio interview."It appears she has changed her mind.

Senators John McCain (R.-Ariz.) and Hillary Clinton (D.-N.Y.), the current frontrunners for their parties’ 2008 presidential nominations, joined Senators Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.) and Charles Schumer (D.-N.Y,) in rallying a group of illegal aliens who came to Washington, D.C., on March 8 as part of a lobbying effort funded by a foreign government to push for amnesty for illegal aliens.
HUMAN EVENTS ONLINE - Conservative News, Views & Books --: "This kind of reception is enough to make a guy want to run for President of the United States," said McCain, after the illegal aliens gave him a standing ovation.

Clinton and McCain may think their pandering will appeal to Irish-American voters. But when they run in the United States of America in 2008, they just might find that their fawning words for a foreign-government-funded lobby that flouts U.S. immigration law sounded more like fighting words to many plain, old-fashioned, red-blooded voterseven if they happen to be proud, law-abiding Irish-Americans. An Awesome Experience

As a member of a Soldiers Angels letter writing team, I receive many positive responses from our military. In fact, I have yet to receive a letter complaining about serving in Iraq. The following are excerpts of a letter I received.

"Thank you so much for the letter. I have received letters, cards and a box from many soldier’s angels. Each time I hear from a soldier’s angel it brightens my day and renews my faith that America still cares.

In my dealings I have been able to meet many Iraqis and speak directly with them about their individual situations. Through this contact, I see that bringing freedom to these people was the right thing to do. It is an awesome experience to be a part of a life changing experience for a whole nation of people. I pray that God helps them stay on the right path."

What Kind of Soul Are You?

You Are an Old Soul

You are an experienced soul who appreciates tradition.
Mellow and wise, you like to be with others but also to be alone.
Down to earth, you are sensible and impatient.
A creature of habit, it takes you a while to warm up to new people.

You hate injustice, and you're very protective of family and friends
A bit demanding, you expect proper behavior from others.
Extremely independent you don't mind living or being alone.
But when you find love, you tend to want marriage right away.

Souls you are most compatible with: Warrior Soul and Visionary Soul

Semantics And Polls

I saw a clip on TV of Dr. Dean castigating President Bush for lying to the American people that he did not know the levees might be BREACHED. President Bush had been informed that there was a possible danger of the levees being OVER TOPPED, indicating that if the lake filled too much, the water could potentially flow over the top of the levees. Dr. Dean is an educated man and surely knows there is a vast difference between flowing over the top of the levee and the levee actually developing holes which allow vast amounts of water to flow through the breach as opposed to flowing over the top. He demands truth from the president, calls President Bush a liar while he himself is unable to speak truthfully.

Much ado about sagging polls which indicate public support for the Bush Administration is falling. Strange that the even lower poll numbers of the congress is barely mentioned. The Democrats practice obstructionism instead of offering what might be better solutions to problems. The Republicans lack courage to lead. There are times when I think we should elect a totally new congress despite some individuals who may have Americas best interests at heart--as opposed to the majority who seem to hold their own interests and views as more important than what the electorate wants. Two things I would like to see is term limits for congress and that their extravagant retirement program would be scrapped with Social Security being their retirement package. Perhaps then, they would function in the best interests for Americans and fail to gain so much personal power through longevity.

I for one continue to support our President. All his decisions may not please all of the people, his public relations people may fail him too often but he is our elected leader and he keeps working. How many of us would be able to function with all of the hateful rhetoric which never lets up?
