I listened to Senator’s Kerry’s speech at the DNC. In fact, I printed out the speech transcript. Thoughts have been swirling through my mind. I noted that applause was the greatest when he made promises to the people about new government programs and anything couched diplomatically, but clearly bashing, the current administration.
Kerry spoke of his experience in Berlin when he bicycled through the gates. ”I saw
the fear in the eyes of people who were not free”. I cannot help but wonder why he
does not realize that the same fear has been in the eyes of Afghani and Iraqi people
for many years. These people, although from a vastly different culture than the
Europeans, have been longing for an opportunity to be free. Is he even aware of the
many women in Afghanistan who longed for the freedom that his wife holds so dear?
Does he know how many Afghani women have registered to vote, or does voter registration belong only to the Americans? Has he read any of the Iraqi blogs who so eloquently describe their hopes for the freedom we Americans have. Does he realize
how many Iraqis are taking the freedom of speech to their hearts? Blogs are
multiplying each day and include writings and pictures from a from a 13 year old
girl to mature professional people. Americans, Europeans, Asians and Australians
read these blogs daily and have direct communication with the bloggers. Not all
views of the Americans and the coalition are positive but, despite the negatives they
face in their daily lives, they are reaching out for democracy and a better life. What better way is there to fight for hearts and minds? What better way to assure that radical Islamofascist views do not take hold in Iraq. These people need time to trulytrust Western nations. What they do not need is for the US to hasten our departure before a strong, democratic federation is in place, through elections by and for the people, with adequate quantity and quality of their nations defense is accomplished. Are American and European people the only ones who deserve freedom? Are we so lacking in fire stations in America that we can ill afford to build one in Baghdad? We cannot take all of the world’s huddling masses, yearning to be free, within our
borders. When Kerry says, “the measure of our character is our willingness to give of ourselves for others and for our country”, what others is he speaking of? Is Kerry’s 0.07% of his reported income, that he donated to charity, the measure of our
willingness to give of ourselves. Is this the example we, as Americans, are to emulate if he is leading us?
Kerry states, “We are a nation at war—a global War on Terror against an enemy
unlike any we have never known before”. Despite the unknown aspects of the enemy, Kerry voices repeatedly, that clear, concise, executable plans for the postwar priod,
should have been made well in advance of the start of the war. He redefines his views
at frequent intervals, but cannot grant the administration the opportunity of redefining plans on the post war phase in Afghanistan and Iraq. Can he say ,as a truth teller to the American people, that any one of our various conflicts and subsequent nation rebuilding went off without a hitch? Were all of our past military plans perfect? Did we rapidly leave Japan, Germany, South Korea, Bosnia, Kosovo etc. rapidly? What is Kerry’s plan in Iraq if his diplomatic overtures do not widen the coalition? It is possible that they will fail. What then? How soon will we cut and run?
According to Kerry, “We need to rebuild our alliances, so that we can get the
terrorists before they get us. I defended this country as a young man and I
will defend it as President. I will never hesitate to use force when it is required”.
“I will never give any nation or international institution a veto over our national security”. These are Kerry’s own words. Can anyone tell me how this differs from
what President Bush did for our nation? Does Kerry not realize that France and
Germany would never have voted with us and would exercise their veto over toppling Saddam. Does the documentation of the ‘food for oil’ scandal not make him question
diplomatic skills as a means of gaining their support?
“For four years, we have heard a lot of talk about values. But values spoken without actions taken are just slogans. Values are not just words. They’re what we live by. They’re about the causes we champion and the people we fight for. And it is time for those who talk about family values to start valuing families”. My question is this,
“are American families the only families of value?” Are the families who have
suffered under the Taliban rule and Saddam’s brutality of less value ? We listened to
the UN and ended the gulf war without taking out Saddam. To our great shame, thousands of Iraqis were killed because we encouraged them to overthrow Saddam
and then nobody came to help. With the sanctions, food for oil, and the fact that the money Iraq got never went to food or medicine for his people, how would the Iraqis ever free themselves of Saddam and his sons?
Kerry assures us that he will be strong on terrorism. “Any attack will be met with a
swift and certain response”. Hello, does anybody recall we have been attacked. Do Americans want to wait for another attack before we actively engage the terrorists?

American Crossroads
As an American, I have a very real interest in what is happening in the world and how politics is affecting the internal American debate. It seems to me that many in this country have been unable to move on from the controversy of the 2000 election. Many were unhappy with the result and that is understandable since individual voters want their candidate to win. This was a very "messy" time in America. Some Floridians votes were inaccurately made, punctures incomplete, others were confused by the butterfly format of the ballot, some were ruled ineligible to vote because of non registration, felony conviction, or in the case of the military votes, lack of a postmark because of the way they were shipped, bypassing a post office. These were unfortunate happenings and I do not want to see any American citizen disenfranchised because of technicalities the voter is not responsible for. This was most noted in Florida because the electoral votes hinged on the outcome. Partisanship was at it most active as the Gore supporters could not accept the ultimate outcome. They cling to the "stolen" election and the "illegitimate" presidency. Many organizations were allowed to recount once again after the question was settled by the Supreme Court and determined that in the final, less hectic recount that George Bush won the majority of Florida votes.
This distasteful start of the Bush presidency has lingered for almost four years. Many have referred to the stolen vote over these difficult years for our nation. George Bush has been under almost constant attack for this with the brief respite after 9/11 when we as a nation came together in our common grief and rage. He has been criticized, ridiculed and subjected to hate speech and distortions of truth.
He took seven minutes to react! Could he have been thinking during this time while attempting to avoid alarm among the young children? Had he been told of the tragedies and possibly been told to sit tight for a bit while arrangements were being made for his safe being and methods by which he could exit without panicking the nation? Nobody knows for certain, but this seems plausible to me.
The media, while they still were reporting rapid developments after 9/11 appeared to indicate that this man whose abilities they doubted had risen to the occasion and was a comfort to the nation. His appearance at ground zero and his promise that the terrorists would hear from us were widely heralded and served to give us confidence in this man.
Decisions were made. Congress, with bipartisan support, voted to give President Bush the authority to act both in Afghanistan and Iraq. It took time to gather whatever intelligence we and our allies had. We went to the United Nations for support and found that several countries, who are supposedly allies, were dead set against allowing the USA to seek out the terrorist supporting regime in Iraq. When the food for oil scandal came to light, it was pretty clear to this writer that those countries who oppposed us had motives to keep Saddam in power. President Bush and his cabinet formed a coalition of the willing to persevere despite the lack of UN blessing. John Kerry has repeatedly voiced that we alienated allies because we did not give the UN and those nations the right to dictate our response to the attack on Americans and American interests. He wants to play nicely with those who do not have our best interests at heart while Australia, the UK, Italy, Poland etc. have been denigrated to a status of less improtance than France, Germany and Russia.
Those Americans who still were so bitter over the election and those that realized that in order to defeat Bush in the next election they had to distance themselves from his policies and criticize everything the Bush administration did. If they were so wise and had such better answers, why didn they not offer these suggestions to the American people in a positive way and gain widespread support so we could write our congress to support these views? Why the vitriol against a man who has the most difficult job in the world? This bewilders me to this day. Such hate expressed about an administration who was trying it's best to keep our nation safe and battle terrorists who do not fight according to any rules of engagement certainly affected my views. I lived through WWII and all of the subsequent conflicts and always felt that Americans support their leaders during dark days such as we have gone through. Was the Bush administration 100% right in every aspect of foreign and domestic policies while at war? No, this administration is made up of human beings who like you and I are fallible. Did they deserve our unquestioning support? No, we have the right to question and to suggest viable options. What we should not have the right to do is to give aid and comfort to the enemy by being so divisive and promoting propaganda against our own government. Do the terms sedition and treason have any meaning anymore or are individual rights to do and say anything more important than
being united against a force that would annihilate Americans.
Now the Democratic Party, has as a public relations measure in order to elicit votes, decided they have done enough with their hate Bush tactics and will now present a positive campaign. Al Gore can no longer bellow "George Bush has betrayed America" Move On will no longer compare Bush to Hitler. No announcement as yet about calling off the lawyers who will see to it that this election is not stolen by the Republicans. They will be such nice guys that any defense by the Republicans to their months long hate speech will be seen as negative campaigning. Some of this is just politics as usual but it will not erase their candidates history as to his voting record and his public pronouncements leading up to the Iraq war. He is presenting himself as a war hero. If he is a hero as his medals would attest, he is not one iota more important than any war hero who has fought for this nation in any conflict. This does not elevate him above the citizenry that have fought, been maimed for a lifetime or given their life for America and our security.
When Senator Dole decided to run for the presidency, he resigned his seat in the senate so that his constiuents would continue to have representation. He also was a war hero who has lived with permanent disability from his fight for our freedoms. Why do the Democrats feel their constituents do not deserve the same consideration? I have written to Senator Edwards asking him to resign since he is a senator from my state and I feel that he is not representing my interests. I have written to Senator Dole requesting she stay in Washington during the usual recess since the intelligence reforms need immediate debate. Alas, my other Senator will be busy campaigning. He may fly in for a vote, but where will he be during thoughtful debate?
Kerry said he wants the 9/11 commission to stay on the job for at least 18 months. Is it because he realizes that the senate, congressional and executive oversight has not lived up to their obligation to Americans? After all, President Bush had a full nine months to see to it that the intelligence agencies were truly doing the best job and working cooperatively with each other. A committee that was appointed to seek out what went wrong are now to be tasked with seeing that we get it right as reforms are needed. This tells me Kerry does not have confidence in the congress and a "Kerry administration" to do the job without another group riding shotgun. The need for eighteen months, double the time the Bush administration had to identify and correct problems will be needed. Double standard and increased bureaucracy comes to mind!
Where is the Democratic platform? What are the delegates who represent their districts voicing? What compromises are being worked out between the strong anti-war Democrats and the more moderate or centrist Democrats? How can Kerry continue to voice stances that vary from group to group. How can he justify his past performance and statements with what he says today? What will he say or do tomorrow and the days that follow? President Bush has followed through on his promises. His major shift has occurred regarding nation building and I agreed with his original view and now appreciate the need for continued assistance to the Afghani and Iraqi people. I also know that these people are doing all they can to help build their nations. Their courage is to be commended. I know where George Bush stands. I cannot say the same for John Kerry. I trust Dick Cheney's judgments based on long term service to this country. I voted for Senator Edwards because he has achieved personal goals without being a member of the upper class who never had to struggle. Now I feel John Edwards has reneged on his promises to represent me because he has more important goals.
I have watched all the debates in the Democratic primaries. I saw the diversity in opinions and promises. I have listened to Bush bashing ad infinitum and the only thing I am sure of after all of this is I know the names of the Democratic candidates. I know that Edwards is a charismatic speaker. They promise a better future but I do not know how this will be avhieved. Will their word be be their bond? I truly doubt this based on Kerry's documented wavering ( see link below) and Edwards abandoning the people of North Carolina.

The Questions Regarding Iran
I am concerned about Iran based on the 9/11 commisssion report, the news of the nuclear development in Iran, the news about Iranian terrorists going into Iraq, and the news that al Sadr is collaborating with the Iranian mullahs in power within Iran. I have been reading many of the comments on the activist chats written by Iranaians within and without Iran. I am posting links to articles from that source. No matter what the outcome of the US election, I feel that Iran will continue to be a challenge to our nation. The UN seems impotent dealing with the threat of nuclear development in Iran. I encourage readers to look at some of these articles. It appears to me that Iranians are ready to overthrow the mullahs from within and prefer US stands by with moral support and not military interventions. They are not asking for money from any government but would accept financial support from individuals. It would appear that

John Kerry has said his convention wil l be positive. The first night did el iminate our president’s name for the most part. Any probl em we face as a nation is now just not the faul t of President Bush it is the entire Republ ican party.
The Republ icans have moved our economy from one of surpl uses to huge deficits. I did not real ize the Republ icans were spending al l that money al one. The l arge amounts of tax payer money that went to the survivors of 9/11, the money that has been spent in defense of other countries as peace keepers, the money that has been spent on homel and security, the war on terror, etc. are al l Republ ican spending and the Democrats had nothing to do with it. I am so gl ad that the Democrats have cl arified that.
I guess I am mistaken that the terrorists managed to buil d up their strength over years. Those cunning devil s onl y took nine months to devel op and execute their pl ans once those terribl e Republ icans took office and had a majority in congress. How coul d I have missed al l of that. I guess I forgot how great we were doing as a nation with the strong MORAL l eadership of Cl inton-Gore.
If onl y President Bush had not pushed al l of those trade agreements, jobs woul d not have gone overseas. If onl y President Bush had thoroughl y examined the worthiness of our intel l igence and rescinded al l of the rul es that were hindering the sharing of information within the various intel l igence agencies, sought out better l eadership in intel l igence, and gotten the spies embedded in the terrorists groups. If onl y he had offered to pay France Germany Russia l d l ose from food for oil , they might have gone al ong with the US l l y supportive rel ationships. We woul d not have had to rel y on the puny coal ition with such inconsequential countries l ike Britain Austral ia l ong overdue to prove to the worl d he had el iminated al l WMD . President Bush shoul d not have l istened to John Kerry saying that Saddam was a threat to the worl d and coul d not be al l owed to continue. If onl y President Bush had rejected the vote to give him the responsibil ity to decide when to decl are war and waited for the l engthy debates that woul d have given us a much better pl an to el iminate Saddam. Wel l , actual l y, we probabl y didn’t need to troubl e Iraq l d have tal ked to Saddam and asked that he pl ease stop torturing and kil l ing his own peopl e and instead just use humil iation techniques l ike Rummy personal l y promoted. If onl y President Bush had not LIED to the American peopl e about Saddam seeking to buy uranium from Niger l Qaeda operatives tal king with Iraq l eadership and terrorists being granted refuge in Iraq l y the Republ icans woul d have seen the wisdom in focusing on UBL as the sol e l eader of terrorists. We coul d have examined every cave until we brought this one person to justice, and there woul d be no need to seek out other terrorists or countries that had harbored and supported them. Without UBL we coul d rest easy knowing that the WOT was over. If onl y the Republ icans woul d have l eft Iraq l one, the Iraqi minutemen woul d not have had to defend their “nation” by IED, car bombs, RPGs and other means which kil l the infidel Iraqis who mistakenl y want freedom and a chance for government determined by the peopl e.
If onl y the Republ icans had continued with the economic pol icies of the previous administration our surpl us woul d have continued to grow and al l Americans woul d have heal th care of the same qual ity and quantity currentl y enjoyed by al l el ected official s. Perhaps, Social Security woul d be joined with the retirement pl ans of el ected official s and prove that our l eaders put the needs of individual citizens ahead of their own personal agendas. Perhaps congress woul d vote in pay cuts for themsel ves so that monies woul d be more avail abl e to hel p the masses. The former president wants to donate $500,000 of his tax cut to hel p pay for our defense expense. I guess he wil l ral l y the other trul y weal thy to hel p put our nation back in the bl ack. I am quite sure that despite the pre-nup, John Kerry wil l be abl e to encourage the Heinz cl an to donate humongous amounts of money and promise to avoid any tax l oophol e in the future.
If onl y, The Patriot Act had never been suggested. I woul d feel so much better that no one coul d ever know that I on occasion borrow novel s from my l ocal l ibrary. I coul d be assured that my phone is in no danger of being tapped so that my conversations about my famil y, my pets and al l the highl y confidential conversation is never heard by the government spies who are determined to undermine my rights. If drug deal s, terrorist pl ans, research on how to undermine the USA l ightest way. If my country fal l s apart because of this, so be it. My individual rights are more important than any attempt to restrict the movements of the criminal or terrorist el ements that may threaten the total ity of the USA l l ing to give them up just because those Republ icans want to have absol ute power and are unwil l ing to cater to my personal desires.

We, the masses, bel ieved we were at war when he said that fol l owing 9/11. If onl y he woul d apol ogize now for taking the WOT to the mideast instead of fighting on our home ground. Our mil itary, having been forced to vol unteer knowing that they woul d never have to defend us, woul d be cl oser to home and famil y instead of being in an inhospitabl e foreign l and. We woul d have saved the vast amount of money spent on transporting troops and war material s so far from home. We woul d have time to l et contracts and in two or so years, we coul d begin rebuil ding our nation with the l owest bidder. This al so woul d create jobs here at home as we rebuil d our school s, hospital s, financial institutions.

Mrs. John Kerry--First Wife?
The following is excerpted from an email I received.
Mrs. John Kerry hates being called that, by the way: Maria Teresa Thiersten Simoes-Ferreira Heinz married Senator Kerry in 1995. If you thought John Kerry was scary, he doesn't hold a candle to his wife! Maria Teresa was born in Mozambique, the daughter of a Portuguese physician, was educated in Switzerland and South Africa. Fluent in five languages, she was working as a UnitedNations interpreter in Geneva in the mid-60's when she met a "handsome" young American, H. John Heinz, III, who told her his family was "in the food business."They were married in 1966 and returned to Pittsburgh where his family ran the giant H. J. Heinz food company. Terrorism vs The America I Love
I will include excerpts from the 9/11 commission report, page 393. First the report:
"Our enemy is twofold; al Qaeda, a stateless network of terrorists that struck us on 9/11; and a radical ideological movement in the Islamic world, inspired in part by al Qaeda, which has spawned terrorist groups and violence across the globe. The first enemy is weakened, but continues to pose a grave threat. The second enemy is gathering, and will menace Americans and American interests long after Usama Bin Ladin and his cohorts are killed or captured. Thus
our strategy must match our means to two ends: dismantling the al Qaeda network and prevailing in the longer term over the ideology that gives rise to Islamist terrorism.
Islam is not the enemy. It is not synonymous with terror. Nor does Islam teach terror. America and its friends oppose a perversion of Islam, not the great world faith itself. Lives guided by religious faith, including literal beliefs in holy scriptures, are common to every religion, and represent no threat to us.

The author continues to list the number of attacks against US interests beginning with the taking of Iran Embassy hostages in 1979, Lebanon Embassy and Marine Barracks in 1983, through numerous others such as the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993 up to the 9/11 attack on the WTC. The author of this letter to his sons then goes on to state that in WW II the basically Christian nation of Germany was unable to combat the philosophy of Hitler and that Nazis killed many Christians as well as the holocaust of the Jewish people. Currently the Islamic terrorists are killing their own people in Iraq, Sudan. The writer goes on to say that there is no politically correct way to avoid saying it--the Muslim terrorists are who we are fighting. One thing in the letter that really hit home with me is his answers to his sons on what it would mean if we lose this war. "We would no longer be the premier country in the world. The attacks will not subside but will steadily increase. The plan was clearly to attack us until we were neutered and submissive to them. We would of course have no future support from other nations for fear of reprisals and for the reason that they would see we are impotent and cannot help them. They will pick off the other non-Muslim nations one at a time."
My thoughts on this letter and the 9/11 report lead me to believe that President Bush started us finally on the mission to get rid of al Qaeda and one of the great terrorism supporters, Saddam Hussein. We lost many opportunities to stop or slow the spread before 9/11 but looking back and blaming those in previous years who were too timid to truly commit to eliminating al Qaeda allowing it to spawn more terrorist cells throughout the world including within the USA is counterproductive. We need to look forward and be prepared to continue pursuing any and all terrorists where ever they may be.
I am concerned about the many Americans who are too busy or too apathetic to really look at the situation our nation is in. They warm to the promises of greater goodies from the government. They seem to think that we can get more tax monies from the rich and therefore
spread it to the masses of people who have low or no income. They bash GWB for having gotten us into this mess (he is doing his best to get us out of it) and seem oblivious to the greater threat to our nation. Undoubtedly, the WOT has not been without glitches and need to rethink plans.
We have as individuals and as government agencies made mistakes and will continue to do so. We have started at least to attack those who want us dead and the maniac that supported terrorism against his neighbors as well as his own people. Just remember WWII and the Normandy landings--offcourse for some, equipment that was unable to reach the beaches etc.
War is hell! I do not like war, but when it comes to the wellbeing of our nation I will support it all the way.

Much Ado About Artists Opinions
Sometime back I received an email being circulated about the intellectual achievements of many of the currently popular entertainers--darn, I wish I had kept it. Many have had no education beyond high school and indeed some had even found that too intellectually challenging to complete. Somehow too many of these personages have decided they have the answers to the most complex issues of the day. The answer is to bash Bush. Now Ronstadt worships Moore and her statements are not accepted by many people. Moore comes to poor Linda's defense and now Elton John enters with his profound understanding of the USA by complaining that the US Government is using "bullying tactics" to stop dissent by artists. I enjoyed Chrenkoff's commentary today "there are the few enlightened ones (the artists) and there are the masses (us); John and Moore and Co have the freedom to speak, we have the obligation to listen. This is the MTV Constitutional Theory 101. "
Since I do not subscribe to MTV's curriculum, I have no OBLIGATION to listen to the artists trying to impose their views on me. I am capable of reviewing data and coming to a conclusion based on my own knowledge of history, current events and personal beliefs/ethics. If I pay to listen to a singer or musician, I expect them to sing or play music. I am not interested in a commentary of their personal views unless it is to explain why they like the song they sing or the music they play. If I want news, views, or propaganda; there are many websites that will furnish this and it is my RIGHT to go to the web or not. I have the RIGHT to boycott artists, movies, products or anything else that displeases me without any government oversight. To claim that it is the government's tactics may be partially true since it is the government, as based on the US Constitution that gives ME these RIGHTS. Let the artists rant about their rights to free speech -- I have the right to not listen, to walk out, to boycot and to complain to whomever pays these artists. The payers have the right to fire these artists if they do not support the artist's view and/or realize that their business will suffer since consumers affect the success/failure of the business.
There are a number of artist's whose work I have enjoyed in the past but will no longer buy their records or pay to see their movies. It is not because their views differ from mine, rather it is their arrogance in pushing their views on me when and where it is inappropriate. I will not go to see F9/11 because MM feels it is appropriate to tell the Europeans that I am stupid. Well Michael, I am not so stupid that I would give you two cents of the money I worked for to support your bigoted commentary on my nation.

I Have Cooled Down
My post about the Phiippines still has me wondering why they would pay ransom and pull out their 51 people. My second thought regarding pulling our troops out, cutting off aid was a little much. Philippines are fighting terrorism on their own soil. They need our support because we can not let the terrorists achieve their goals anywhere. Sooo, I have cooled down. I found a couple of email addresses for military in Afghanistan and hope they might provide me some links to blogs that will provide some information on the situation over there. The Filipino captive was released and is now safe at the Philippine Embassy so at least, one human life was saved and he will be able to go home to his children. For that I am thankful.

Philippines, Friend or Foe?
We, the United States of America have been spending tens of millions of dollars on foreign aid to the Philippines. Now it seems they offered and PAID six million dollars as ransom for the hostage held by terrorists in Iraq. When that payment failed to assure the release of their hostage, they agreed to and are pulling out their fifty some humanitarian aid workers. I do not want this poor man to die, but in funding the terrorists while accepting our foreign aid and support of our military in the Philippines is truly stabbing us in the back. With friends and allies like this, we don't need enemies. Perhaps we should bring our military home since they could be sent to Iraq to help fight the terrorists. Perhaps we should cut off the economic aid since they have millions of dollars to spend to support the terrorists. Our treaty of mutual protection has been broken by the Philippine government. Bring our troops and money home and spend it where it might effect more change.

Blogs I Like, Politics I Don't Like
My daily attempt to learn more of the news that our media does not see fit to print or to show on TV regarding the situation in Iraq, Afghanistan leads me to read the blogs written by Iraqis and by our military. I find the majority of them to be insightful and feel I have a better grasp of what is happening. I never thought I would ever have a chance to "talk" with someone on the warfront or people living in the ME. I tell my friends how fascinating and informative they are but it seems that they really have little interest. This makes me anxious. Are we truly that apathetic? Do we really trust TV and printed media? I spoke with my friend yesterday that had sent me the questions re. friends don't let friends vote Republican. I had not heard from her since I sent her my response. She said a friend had given it to her at church--this surprised me--she said she didn't agree with my comments but gave me no reasons for her choice. We will remain friends as we have for 40 years. I was as surprised by her reactions as I guess she was by mine. If it were not for the blogs, I would begin to think that I am the only one who thinks that we are involved in a war we did not ask for but must fight. I would believe that I was the only one who sees in President Bush strightforward leadership despite the fact I do not agree with him on all things. The verbal abuse heaped on him makes we wonder what happened to an America I knew that stood behind our leaders, perhaps some critical debate within or without a political party, but the charges ala Gore, J. Bond, T. Kennedy etc. ,do not qualify as debate. I begin to wonder what are our laws against treason. We have a candidate for the highest office in our land who gave aid to our enemies and is honored in N. Vietnam hall of fame. We have two candidates, elected as senators, who have left their jobs undone because they are campaigning.
Why didn't they resign their seats so that their constituents had some representation? I do not know the answers but at least I ask the questions.

My biggest fear
I can't recall the exact phrasing John Kerry has used in his messages to voters but I have interpreted it as isolationist and today it sounded like he would work to bring the troops home at the earliest possible time. After I finished writing my blog, I was reading blogs from Iraq citizens and our military. At thegreenside.com/ the discussion was about a brief memorial service for a fallen marine and how everyone says something they remember about their buddy. The marine who wrote this talked about what the CO said regarding an article he had read (not identified)"The author had gotten himself into a number of insurgent cells from southern Iraq to Baghdad to Fallujah. The author spoke about the terrorists' commitment and motivation to continue their cause. Surprisingly, it was not religion or ideology; it was hate for American and the West. Toward the end of his article, he asked one terrorist what he would do if the Americans were driven from Iraq and went back to America. The terrorist stated after some reflection that he and his men would follow us there...."

I especially noted the praise for Julian Bond, his comments that the president could arrange his schedule to be here, that "faith without works" is meaningless.
My view is that these are a lot of promises that would be lovely if they were feasible. Hillary said in California that the tax cuts would be taken from us and here Kerry is promising more. I didn't realize we had the right to tax the top 2% to such an extent that they could pay for all of his plans. How reassuring that lawyers will be monitoring the voting process--I'm sure that will resound throughout America and make us all feel better.
Kerry's willingness to champion all who bash President Bush be it Whoopi or Julian makes it hard to swallow when he claims to be the great uniter. This is not the leader I want!

CIA Oversight
As I understand it, there is a House oversight committee responsible for monitoring the function of the CIA, there is a Senate oversight committee for monitoring the function of the CIA making two committees from Comgress with these responsibilitites. There is one executive branch committee with similar oversight. The CIA works cooperatively with all three comittees. The leadership and structure of the CIA was inherited by the current administration after apparently functioning satisfactorily by the three branches of government with oversight responsibiliteis during the previous administration. Can anyone tell me why, after the Senate Committe investigation identifying problems reaffirmed the information given to us in his State of The Union and other addresses were correct, the failure of the CIA is the sole responsibility of President Bush?

that Saddam's regime was seeking to increase their imports from Niger. Seems Niger has two major exports-yellowcake and goats. I guess Mr . Wilson was convinced that goats were being asked for to feed the starving Iraqis. Too bad that Wilson's claim, that his CIA wife had nothing to do with his appointment to go to Niger to investigate, was
disproved by the presence of the memo his wife wrote recommending him for the job due to his previously established contacts in Niger. It appears to me that more and more of Bush's "lies" are proving to be

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with

The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest

conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for

You support states' rights, which means Attorney General John Ashcroft can
tell states what local voter initiatives they have the right to adopt. (I support the Patriot Act. This is a tool to allow our FBI and CIA to work cooperatively to locate, detain and prosecute terrorists. They only had these rights to deal with the mafia and drug dealers before the P. Act. I do not care if someone sees what books I buy or check out at the library because I am not planning to overthrow the government. I can not think of one of my civil rights that has been violated. (If sexual misconduct is not important, why did the Dem in Illinois (with family ties to the newspaper) feel it was necessary to get Jack Ryan's sealed custody documents unsealed when he and his ex wife went to court to keep them sealed. Democrats want it both ways.)

(I pray every night for God to grant Bush wisdom and the strength to persevere in this most difficult role. North Carolina's Loss?
John Edwards, our mostly absent, Senator is going to be a candidate for Vice President. It is good he has another post to run for since I doubt very much he would be reelected in NC.
He fought for the little guy who had grievous problems or loss in their lives and then so compassionatly accepted 1/3 of whatever award the poor, unfortunate soul was given by the court. Such compassion, as is univerally demonstrated by trial lawyers, is so needed in our government administration-not.
I for one will happily keep our current administration over what the Democrats have to offer.

My first attempt at blogging! Who might be interested in what I have to say? Time will tell.
I have been a faithful reader of iraqthemodelblogspot for some time and have added my comments. I truly believe that blogs are a great way to share information and views on situations that the media do not cover in depth or cover in such a skewed way as to keep readers/viewers from what is the truth.
I support President Bush as he pursues the war on terror despite domestic policies I disagree with--ie. Medicare drug coverage. The pharmaceutical industry needs to be reined in. Use the millions spent to advertise the drugs du jour in the print and TV media on R&D instead. Give US citizens the same costs as other countries citizens pay. Cut the red tape and paper work involved in this discount plan. Take a portion of the expected government costs and directly subsidize those drug companies who truly are actively researhing new medicines.
