Military View of President Bush

I have been reading a lot of military blogs everyday. I follow links from sites often and so trying to retrace my steps has proved impossible. Comments made by one military person stick in my mind. I will attempt to paraphrase what I remember.
Evidently the protocol for the military that greet the president as he boards a helo or a plane or comes off of one is to salute the CIC as the president comes in to view and hold the salute as long as he remains in view. He said, watch the next time this occurs on TV. You may well see the military turn and continue the salute until the president is inside the plane. Watch clips of former president in similar circumstances and you will see the military giving the obligatory salute while facing him, but they do not turn and continue the salute. He pointed out that on one occasion, Mrs. Bush approached with one dog on a leash and entered the plane. As President Bush came forward with the second dog, the dog refused to go up the steps so the president bent down and picked the dog up and went up the steps and into the plane. A few moments later, the military man felt a tap on his shoulder, it was the president who came back to return the salute he was unable to give with his arms full of dog. This is one of the courtesies of the President that endear him to the military and indeed, to me.

  1. Yep, President Bush is repected a whole lot by most military members. We really like and respect a guy who respects us and who does what he says.
