I support our military and believe that they follow the code of conduct and rules of engagement with rare exception. I am sorry to learn that charges have been filed against several for the killing of an innocent person. Investigations are being done and reported as being very thorough. As sad as this is, the American people and the world expects honorable behavior from our troops. I have never been in the military so can only try to imagine the feelings of our troops when living under constant threat when they are away from their base. I would like to think I would follow the code, but in actuality I cannot state that my emotions would remain under perfect control. We learn of charges filed against some individuals. Trials will occur, judgments made and penalties determined for those found guilty.
The press will continue to tell and retell the stories and persons such as Rep. Murtha will continue to use the incidents to further his talking points to disparage the military efforts in Iraq. Those who are so quick to judge the failure of the military in these rare instances, appear to have total disinterest into why so many persons in power in both Democratic and Republican administrations have failed in their duties to enforce the laws of our land pertaining to securing our borders and identifying illegal aliens and deporting them. WHEN WILL THEY BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE?
I read about the failure of ICE, catch and release, sanctuary cities, failure to deport illegal aliens after being found guilty of felonies, granting green cards with a rubber stamp approach, and the apparent acceptance of ignoring our laws. Those in a position to identify these crimes against our nation and to insist our laws cannot be reinterpreted and ignored by whomever is administering the agencies supported by taxpayers are silent. I read of the new "wall" in the Senate immigration bill to forbid sharing of information between those who would do background checks and other government agencies who by law have authority to act on this information.
Much ado in congress about the warrant and subsequent search of Rep. Jefferson's office. How dare the FBI and a Federal Judge act after months of ignored subpoenas.
This has so stirred politicians in both parties that President Bush had to order the files sealed for 45 days to give the congressional critters a time to settle down. The immediate reaction to the violation of the sanctity of a congressional office is so great that talk of impeachment of the Attorney General and the Federal Judge has been raised.
Now, think again of the environment our troops are in. In Haditha, Marines saw one of their comrades cut in two by an IED. The remaining facts are yet to be made public. Did some of them go ballistic? We will find out in time. They have been tried by some already in the media and will face trial by the Military court. They will be held to the code of conduct. I am again assured about the integrity of the military in that they are investigating, determining the facts and following through to see that justice is done if innocents were targeted and killed. I have greater empathy for the troops how may have temporarily lost their self control and acted improperly than I do for those in public office who swear the same oath to protect and defend the Constitution and support the CODE OF CONDUCT (American Law). When will investigations be made, when will the public servants be called to account as we so quickly do with our military.
The argument will be that innocents were killed. I believe there are many innocents in our nation who also have been murdered and raped because of lax attention to the screening and deportation of illegal aliens? How many American youth have become addicted to the heroin and methamphetamine brought in over the border. I ask of those in power, when will the investigations begin and WHEN WILL THEY BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE?

Do We Need A New National Party?
I remain an Independent voter with strong fiscal conservative views. I believe in States Rights, parental rights and even more importantly in individual rights.This nation has survived since its inception as one nation under God. The views of a few atheists and that of the ACLU should not be allowed to change the character of the nation. I support the constructionist view of our constitution. I do not feel I qualify as a far right wing nut or far left moonbat (terms in common use although I find them demeaning).
Democrats seem to feel that the low polls regarding congressional performance is the sole fault of the Republicans. The media repeat the refrain that because the Republicans have the majority in both houses the public will and should turn out the Republicans up for election in November.
As an Independent, I will vote for the person I feel best meets our nations needs despite party affiliation. I would like to go on record and state that congress rates pretty poorly because of the overt partisanship that has led to no progress on Social Security reform, no progress straightening out the ridiculously complex tax code which is full of loopholes for the wealthy. The blocking of cloture allowing nominees for open judgeships is disgraceful. It is those who block any meaningful debate to improve the well being of the nation who disgust me. Congress earns generous salaries, has a superb retirement package and live a life full of perks at the taxpayer expense. For the generosity of the taxpayers, I think it is fair to expect them to tend to the nation's business and forget the pandering to party lines. I keep looking for a statesman/stateswoman from either party.
President Bush is not perfect. He has a difficult job and has tried to protect our nation. The constant criticism of past events is rehashed and rehashed ad nauseum.
Criticism without an effective alternative plan does nothing but demoralize the citizens. Negative portrayal of our volunteer military forces really angers me. Human papillomavirus (HPV)
I realize I am an older woman who grew up in a time when premarital sex was less common. Sexual mores have changed greatly and and it is not my purpose to pass judgement on others. I am disturbed however every time I hear the rather giddy commercial on TV announcing that cervical cancer is caused by a virus (HPV) and that a vaccine is now available. This cause has been known for years, it is the vaccine that is new information. The thing that disturbs me is the lack of any information regarding the manner in which HPV is transmitted.

If you listen to the recoommendation for administering the vaccine, it is advised to be given before a girl becomes sexually active. It seems to me that this is something young girls need to be told. There is so much in magazines and entertainment media that repeatedly tells young girls that sex is a recreational activity. It is treated so casually that very young girls become involved before they realize the dangers of STD's. Pregnancy is no longer a major fear because abortion is easy to obtain and the psychological and physical ramifications are rarely mentioned.

When did this vision mutate into a path to citizenship?
I must admit to being confused as to how such a simple proposal morphed into the amnesty bill passed by the Senate. In re-reading President Bush's remarks once again, it appears to make sense. The first prioity of strengthening our borders must be achieved.Then the documentation of the illegal workers currently present within our borders can be accomplished not as an automatic path to citizenship but as temporary workers. After three years, those who have abided by our laws, paid their taxes and have been investigated and found not to have used fraudulent documents, stolen identity or been convicted of other felonies may apply for an extension of guest worker status. They would be free at any time to return to their home country and begin the application process followed by everyone else to begin the path to citizenship. They would be able to re-enter the USA with their current biometric card. If this were enacted, we would learn who is here within our borders. Any illegal alien who does not come forward and register within a predetermined timeframe will be ineligible to work or receive any public benefits with the exception of emergency care for life threatening illness. Any alien who does not apply for guest worker status will be deported upon discovery of their illegal presence. The needs of small and big business will be met. Laws requiring prevailing wages and workers insurance will be mandated for all employers. ICE will only have to repond when local law enforcement finds undocumented people. Catch and release will cease.
Biometric cards will replace current legal documents such as green cards and student, non worker visas These cards will be required for employment and for enrolling dependent children (along with the child's birth certificate to authenicate parentage) in our schools. The biometric card will be required by landlords to verify legality. Temporary lodging such as hotels and motels shall have the right to request the biometric card without threat of lawsuit. Babies born to any alien who is not currently on a citizenship path will not be granted citizenship. Driver's licenses can be granted for any documented worker once they have passed the written and road test and have the state mandated insurance. Illegal presence mandating deportation will invalidate any request for guest worker status or application for citizenship. The biometrics of such illegals who are deported will be on file and cross checked for all aliens applying for entry visa, work permit or path to citizenship. Once enacted and the potential illegal immigrants are informed, I believe fewer persons will be tempted to enter illegally or overstay with outdated documents.

In Remembrance
Taps always makes me recall the sacrifice made by our military over the years. I remember my uncle telling of the loss of so many in WW I. WW II is in my memory as I saw the newsreels and listened to the conversation about the war. I remember the day the sirens announced the end of that war and the tears streaming down the face of a man working construction near my home. I asked why the sirens and tears and he said "it means the soldiers will come home."
I remember the sacrifice of so many of the troops. I think of the lives interrupted, separation from family and friends, potential futures gone as they gave their lives that we might remain safe and free at home. May these brave souls rest with God.

Does the CNN have problems with translation from Arabic to English or is it a case of deliberate twisting of facts?

Iran has a right to develop nuclear technology and the international community should drop its demands that Tehran prove it's not trying to build a nuclear weapon, Iraq's foreign minister said Friday.

'Iran doesn't claim that they want to obtain a nuclear weapon or a nuclear bomb, so there is no need that we ask them for any guarantee now,' Hoshyar Zebari said after meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki.
I wasn't there at the press conference but I was able to find an audio clip of the same part of minister Zibari's statement through Radio Sawa, and what he said here is so much different from what the CNN claimed he did (my translation):
We respect Iran's and every other nation's right to pursue nuclear technology for research purposes and peaceful use given they accept [giving] the internationally required guarantees that this will not lead to an armament race in the region�

Will We Remain A Sovereign Nation?
The US Senate passed a bill to weaken our national sovereignty by allowing aliens to demand and get citizenship despite breaking our laws either through illegal entry or overstaying the permit to be here. Our system of laws seems to apply only to our citizens while non citizens are granted the benefits of amnesty for illegal entry, falsification of documents and identity theft. This battle is not over and I pray the House of Representatives will remain firm regarding securing our borders and then finding and penalizing those who break our established laws by employing persons here illegally. Forgiving aliens for falsifying documents and identity theft is not acceptable to me.
Yesterday I got an Email alert regarding the UN scheduling a meeting on July 4, 2006 regarding the drive to ban civilian firearm ownership worldwide.
Today,Sally McNamara writes in her column at Townhall that the "U.N., is leading the gambit for perhaps its biggest power-grab yet - independent tax-raising powers or globo-taxation. "

"Some people are worried that amnesty will give illegal aliens the same rights that American citizens have. In reality, it will give the illegals more rights than the average American citizen." This is the thesis of today's article by Thomas Sowell.

Thomas Sowell
I always enjoy reading the opinions of Thomas Sowell. He conveys a lot of sense in relatively short opinion pieces. If you do not read his columns, let me recommend today's article.

Throw Open The Prison Doors
In the senate bill employers will be given a pass for breaking the law by hiring illegal aliens and the aliens will be given a pass for illegal entry, use of false documents etc., I believe Congress should treat Citizens behind bars with the same compassion. Perhaps they will keep the truly violent criminals in prison. But those poor souls such as Duke Cunningham and ilk along with the petty thief and the alcoholic who chooses to drive under the influence should all be allowed to return home. The non violent felons can pay a fine and earn their freedom and regain all rights of citizenship. The alcoholic caught driving will enter the Mayo Clinic and all will be well. Honest, hard working citizen taxpayers will just absorb the losses of financial security, lack of hospital facilities (closed due to frequent use by the formerly illegal aliens) and continue to vote to retain the 'Statesmen' who are selling our sovereignty down the river. Sarcasm off!

I am glad I am in my retirement years but I fear for our citizens who have over the years worked in the service and construction industries. Factories move overseas and the factory workers have sought employment in other areas.
The new citizens will also be looking for work as the new wave of illegal aliens undercut their salaries. We have had a balance over the years of people with few skills, those with moderate skills and the more highly skilled. Somehow they mangaged to find a job they were able to do and support themselves and their families. As more of our more highly skilled jobs are exported overseas we see a shift downward of jobs available.

Social Security For Illegal Aliens
Many Senators want to grant illegal aliens Social Security benefits which is absurd. If they have been paying into Social Security at all it is with fraudulent documents or stolen identity of someone's SS number. I received an Email today which I have seen many times indicating the desire to "Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us."
The email urges us to make this an issue in the 2006 and 2008 elections. Years ago congress voted themselves a great retirement package allowing them to continue to receive their salaries upon retirement. They do not pay into the system because they figure the taxpayers are so thrilled by the great service they provide that we will reward them until death. We all know Social Security is not secure for future retirees so perhaps paying it out more quickly to those who enter our nation illegally will be a compassionate gesture to hasten a speedy death instead of a long drawn out misery caused by the uncertainty of younger workers wondering if they will have any chance of collecting some of the money they paid in and the ever increasing age for retirement.

My Thoughts on Immigration
I watched and listened as President Bush addressed the nation about plans to control the immigration problems facing the nation. I then read the early reactions on the blogs. I believe President Bush is trying to find a solution to the problem. The current administration did not make this problem although the lack of enforcement of current laws allowed it to continue and intensify. Previous amnesty programs, previous as well as currant leadership in Congress have all contributed. Average American citizens who employ illegal aliens have contributed. Businesses who take advantage of illegal aliens who work for substandard wages have contributed. Mexico's encouragement of it's citizens to enter the US illegally have contributed. Myriad causes require a comprehensive approach. I believe President Bush was reaching out to all citizens to give this problem rational thought. As with any process in America not all of the people will agree. This is the time for citizens to think about the solutions and to let congress know what we want.
Strengthening the borders is the absolute top priority to prevent all persons from entering. We need to be able to eliminate criminal activates and know who is in our nation. For long term security, a physical boundary should be built. Until such time, increasing the numbers of personnel tasked with border control must be increased. I do not know the number it will take. Use of the National Guard is a start. The continuation of the Minutemen will help. I question why the National Guard will not be armed since there have been incursions of armed Mexican Military crossing into the US and there are many incidents of illegal aliens assaulting the border patrol. I am not advocating random shooting of illegal aliens attempting to enter, but it seems incredulous that those patrolling would lack the means of self defense. A National Guard website lists the Top Three Priorities of the National Guard:
1. The National Guard's number one priority is the security and defense of our homeland, at home and abroad.
2. The National Guard's second priority is to support the Global War on Terrorism here and abroad.
3. America insists on a relevant, reliable and ready National Guard that is transformed for the 21st Century.
Enforcing current law is the next priority.Catch and release is senseless. Streamlining the deportation process along with requiring nations, whose citizens enter our country illegally, to facilitate the return of their citizens in order to allow any of their citizens to apply for entry to the US can be accomplished. Changes in our laws aimed to discourage illegal aliens from entering or remaining after documentation for temporary entrance has expired can help.
When the illegal aliens entered our country, they were aware that they were breaking our law. For those who were well informed they knew they were subject to having their entry treated as a misdemeanor and possibly being deported. This seemed a risk worth taking if they were to have a chance at the American dream. Who among us would not take that risk if we were living in a corrupt country without any hope of bettering our lives. How many American citizens have erred in obeying our laws and have been adjudicated as committing misdemeanors? When this is a basically good person, temporarily gone astray, we impose fines, community service and hope this teaches them a lesson. This calling to account has served to "straighten out" many. The impastation of fines, paying back taxes and moving to the end of the line in applying for citizenship seems a fair and reasonable proposal. This would not grant blanket amnesty to all illegal aliens. The process of checking for criminal records, health status and working history in the US would determine the outcome of the application process. Criminal elements would be identified and deported. Now is the time to change the law, although not retroactively, and make it a felony with no possible route to citizenship for illegal aliens sneaking into the US.
Many children have been born in the US to illegal aliens. Now is the time to pass a law that citizenship will only be given to the babies who have at least one parent who is a legal citizen. We may not strip citizenship already given but we can stop future grants of citizenship to babies born to non citizens.
Just because some of the illegal aliens will become documented and eventually become citizens should not mean that entire families are included. The families of American citizens do not all live together. Plans to allow families to get together for visits, family reunions etc. can be developed. If illegal aliens do not meet the criteria to become documented, they are free to take their families back to their nation of origin even if children were born here. Simply having a dependent child that is a citizen should not qualify the parents for documentation if they fail to meet the other criteria.
We all face choices as to we remain close to our families or move great distances away because of work opportunities or our personal desire to live in a different area. When aliens, legal or illegal, come to the US they make a choice. It should not be automatic that other family members are allowed to accompany or join them.
Penalties against businesses who knowingly hire illegals should be stiff. Those who profit from illegal entry, the coyotes, should be imprisoned. Charitable groups who provide TEMPORARY humane assistance and spiritual care should not be penalized since this is one of the very best attributes of Americans. This willingness to assist others should be applauded and nurtured so long as it does not condone and support long term violation of our laws.
A temporary worker program may be needed in the future. Plans for this need to be developed as to how the guest workers would have their backgrounds checked (criminal, health, skills etc.), how they would be tracked and the procedure for deporting them when their guest status expires. This is not an immediate need and time to discuss and establish necessary procedures need not be rushed.
Assimilation of new immigrants must remain the goal for any who apply for citizenship. We need to teach English to those who are not literate or fluent with our language. We need to stop accommodating those who refuse to learn English. Support English language classes and stop the nonsense of bilingual education, ballots and legal documents. If we permit one foreign language to be used, we must in fairness accommodate every language known to man. If a person wishes to live and work here it is their responsibility to learn to understand us, not the other way around. Citizenship must require knowledge of our history and laws. Allegiance to the US rather than their country of origin is basic.

My Son Cares About Me, The Media Does Not
My son called me early this morning to wish me a Happy Mother's Day and we will have dinner together this evening.
Mother's Day is a day for phone calls. That means the government might be able to link your number to your mothers. Horrors!
I recall having given my phone number to the government for the Do Not Call listing. I have also given my phone number to my Senators and Representative. Verizon has records of all my calls be it on land line or cell phone. Often when I order something on line, my phone number is requested. It is in the local phone book. Occasionally someone misdials and ends up calling me.
In view of the above, I have never believed that my phone number was protected information. If the government computers screen the numerous connections made to my phone, it is of no consequence since I do not have contact with terrorists and could care less if someone knows which numbers I call or which numbers call me. Many phones have caller ID which gives them my phone number. If for some reason the government actually listened to my conversations, they would be very bored.
The IRS, on the other hand really gets nosey. They want to know how much income I have, the source of the income and how it is spent. My credit card company gets a copy of where I spend my money. My grocery store keeps track of every item I buy and I am identified by the stores discount card. My internet service can trace all of the sites I visit and the addresses of those people I Email. My postman, FedEx and UPS know where and when I purchase something. The United States Postal Service asks for a detailed account of what is in packages I mail to our troops. My bank knows a lot of detail about how I spend my money. I was fingerprinted as part of an employment procedure. My hospital and physician have information about my health history. My neighbors know when I leave my house and what time I return. My satellite company tracks my TV viewing habits. Spammers search for my internet address so Nigerians can solicit my help in dealing with their millions of dollars.
My thoughts are about the only thing that I can keep free of others knowing and even they are revealed through my speech, my blog and my body language.
The thing that really upsets me about the NSA surveillance procedures is that the Media seem unable to refrain from advertising, hyping and criticizing my government's attempts to protect me and other citizens from future attacks on our nation. The unrelenting attempt to find some error of judgment or action by the administration that is tasked with protecting us actually informs our enemies more than it serves the citizens. My safety is far more imperiled by the media than it is by NSA.

Our Government: Stuck on Stupid!
Doug Hagin makes some valid points about the failure of Congress to accomplish anything that really has an effect. Congress talks and talks about the cost of gas but does not allow drilling of our own national reserves. In the past, laws pertaining to illegal entry into the US have been passed but promptly ignored and remain unenforced. It is time to demand Congress act in the interest of our country by actually solving some problems instead of more rhetoric.

Illegal Aliens Bring Undiagnosed Health Problems
The ramifications of illegal aliens with undetermined illness continue to overburden our health care facilities.
Those with contagious diseases put us all at risk by spreading their disease.
The costs of care bankrupt our hospital facilities and public health services while increasing the charges to paying clients in order to make up for the shortfall
A neurosurgeon writes of his experience with an illegal alien. The alien had TB meningitis, required long hospitalization. The surgeon ended up admiring the illegal since he hoped to work again when many American citizens would have wanted to apply for disability. This determination on the part of the illegal alien is admirable however I encourage you to read the article and note:
A large community hospital, which served Port Chester, Rye and Mamaroneck NY, has been closed due to too many patients unable to pay for their care.
The alien was working in the community while contagious with sputum positive for a very drug resistant form of TB.
The relatives of this man were also positive for TB and were working in local restaurants and potentially exposing whoever visited the restaurant.
The hospital bill of $200,000 was unpaid.
Extra time is involved when caring for a patient in isolation with a communicable disease so the time allowed to care for other patients diminishes or the staffing level must be increased. (As a retired nurse, I can tell you this is rarely done. The staff is just forced to do the best they can without additional help.)
If strict isolation techniques are not followed, health care personnel and other patients are at risk.
The surgeon's fees and those of many other medical specialists were unpaid.
A pathologist refused to contaminate his equipment. The operating room and all of it's equipment had to be decontaminated to assure safety for future patients.
Health department personnel, funded by taxpayers, had to be involved in tracking his contacts, testing them for TB and providing medication to those who tested positive.

The alien was working in the community while contagious with sputum positive for a very drug resistant form of TB.
The relatives of this man were also positive for TB and were working in local restaurants and potentially exposing whoever visited the restaurant.
The hospital bill of $200,000 was unpaid.
Extra time is involved when caring for a patient in isolation with a communicable disease so the time allowed to care for other patients diminishes or the staffing level must be increased. (As a retired nurse, I can tell you this is rarely done. The staff is just forced to do the best they can without additional help.)
If strict isolation techniques are not followed, health care personnel and other patients are at risk.
The surgeon's fees and those of many other medical specialists were unpaid.
A pathologist refused to contaminate his equipment. The operating room and all of it's equipment had to be decontaminated to assure safety for future patients.
Health department personnel, funded by taxpayers, had to be involved in tracking his contacts, testing them for TB and providing medication to those who tested positive.

I can almost assure you that everyone who is a true American was sickened when you saw multitudes of protesters carrying Mexican flags protesting the new Immigration Reform Bill in the Senate. This display of Mexican flags should give you a heads up on where these protesters allegiance lies. Their hearts are in Mexico and their bellies are in the United States. As an American of Mexican Heritage I want to set the record straight, American Hispanics are not all thrilled with illegal immigration. I, for more than 20 years, tried desperately to bring this national debacle to the attention of the American people. I had the privilege of writing for several newspapers, appeared on national and local TV and radio programs, and was asked by many political groups to address this serious problem affecting my former community (north Fort Worth), city, state, and our country. Many will question how I can speak on this subject with some authority. My simpleanswer is: I lived with the problem! Trust me, it was no picnic. Never in my life (I'm 68) had I witnessed the lawlessness, the deterioration of my community, and the black market criminal underground activities attributed to the influx of illegal immigrants. To add injury to insult, politicians soon caved in to the many demands of illegal immigrants. Notably: bilingual education, bilingual ballots, welfare aid, free medical care, etc. Through all this national disgrace allowed by our politicians, have you all noticed that no one ever blames the useless, corrupt, and disgraceful government of Mexico? In contrast, they lambaste and criticize our country. How does that grab you? When I addressed the dangers of our porous border between Mexico and the United States, and the lax security of our nation, no one paid attention. As I observed the situation, the problem was perceived to be between American Hispanic communities and illegal immigrants. White Americans it seemed, assumed that the problem was not theirs to deal with. In other words they were, asleep at the wheel. However, 9-11 soon woke them up. Lets be honest with each other here, white Americans vote in far larger numbers than Hispanics do. And most politicians (Democrats and Republicans) in our city, state, and federal governments are white. Thus, who is more suited to fix this national disaster? I'm sure most of you know what the answer is. In summation, I'm pleading with white American voters to join me in sending our politicians (Democrats and Republicans) a strong message that we will not tolerate illegal immigrants telling us how to make government policy that will make it easier for them to break our laws. Who Is John Cox?
John Cox is the first person to throw his hat into the ring as the Republican nominee for POTUS. He has been busy visiting many counties in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. I linked to his official website and liked what I read. Is it possible that this man from outside the beltway can suceed? I encourage you to read his views as stated in an open letter on his website. One Census, Two Groups
Census, as defined by Starware is the "official count of the number of persons and their condition and of the resources of a country."
The number of illegal aliens residing and working in the U. S. appears unknown and estimates vary. I think American citizens deserve to know just how many persons are here illegally before any plans are made to increase the number of green cards to be granted. I therefore support separate counts of citizen and non-citizen persons in the next official U. S. Census.
The way in which the official census is used such as determining voting districts, number of representatives to state and national government office should be based on the Citizen count.
Funding based on census would be based on the citizen count since I do not believe any social services other than emergency care for life threatening illness should be provided to persons here illegally.
The accuracy of any census relies on honesty both of census takers and those responding to the questionnaire. Since so many fake documents are used by illegal aliens, I would like to see biometric identification issued to all aliens who have pursued legal entry such as via visa or greencard.

Charlie Daniels Has It Right

I don’t know how everybody else feels about it, but to me I think Hispanic people in this country, legally or illegally, made a huge public relations mistake with their recent demonstrations.I don’t blame anybody in the world for wanting to come to the United States of America, as it is a truly wonderful place. But when the first thing you do when you set foot on American soil is illegal it is flat out wrong and I don’t care how many lala land left heads come out of the woodwork and start trying to give me sensitivity lessons.I don’t need sensitivity lessons, in fact I don’t have anything against Mexicans, I just have something against criminals and anybody who comes into this country illegally is a criminal and if you don’t believe it try coming into America from a foreign country without a passport and see how far you get.What disturbs me about the demonstrations is that it’s tantamount to saying, “I am going to come into your country even if it means breaking your laws and there’s nothing you can do about it.”It’s an “in your face” action and speaking just for me I don’t like it one little bit and if there were a half dozen pairs of gonads in Washington bigger than English peas it wouldn’t be happening.Where are you, you bunch of lilly livered, pantywaist, forked tongued, sorry excuses for defenders of The Constitution? Have you been drinking the water out of the Potomac again?And even if you pass a bill on immigration it will probably be so pork laden and watered down that it won’t mean anything anyway. Besides, what good is another law going to do when you won’t enforce the ones on the books now?And what ever happened to the polls guys? I thought you folks were the quintessential finger wetters. Well you sure ain’t paying any attention to the polls this time because somewhere around eighty percent of Americans want something done about this mess, and mess it is and getting bigger everyday.This is no longer a problem, it is a dilemma and headed for being a tragedy. Do you honestly think that what happened in France with the Muslims can’t happen here when the businesses who hire these people finally run out of jobs and a few million disillusioned Hispanics take to the streets?If you, Mr. President, Congressmen and Senators, knuckle under on this and refuse to do something meaningful it means that you care nothing for the kind of country your children and grandchildren will inherit.But I guess that doesn’t matter as long as you get re-elected.Shame on you. Open Letter To Nativo Lopez
Nativo Lopez, president of the Mexican American Political Association,opposes guest-worker programs supported by President Bush and Sen. John McCain, calling them an infringement on the rights of those who want to come to America
Dear Mr.. Lopez,
As a fourth generation American I question why you feel persons who enter our country illegally or stay beyond time here as a legal guest have rights. Nobody is trying to control or remove persons here legally. As a nation of people with immigrant roots, we welcome people who wish to immigrate and become part of the United States of America. We ask only that they follow our laws and apply for permission to immigrate. Many throughout this world follow this procedure and wait years to have their application approved. They are welcomed by the majority of Americans. They have "rights" to learn about our history, learn our language and become naturalized citizens. Only then do they truly have "rights" as Americans.
Perhaps the word "united" in the name of our country has somehow slipped past you. Not only does this term represent the individual states as being "united" in our form of government but more importantly "united" represents how citizens born here and citizens newly arrived join in supporting the well being of the country we all love.
The American family wants to embrace people of other cultures. We ask only that they wait for an initiation to come.
I am assuming you are a citizen. I am sorry you hold this gift in such disdain that you support breaking our laws. I am sorry you do not support the manner in which immigrants have assimilated since the beginning of our nation. You have the ability to retain your personal cultural history and language in your home and even in enclaves of persons with similar ethnic or religious backgrounds. This has always been the case. Assimilation is a gradual process and as children of immigrants learn the American culture they meld into it.
Why are your efforts not aimed at improving our immigration process? If we need workers, as is stated repeatedly, let us invite more people to come here legally.
Let us streamline the process to increase the numbers admitted while retaining our right to screen the applicants and reject those with criminal records and those who wish to infiltrate our nation to overthrow our way of life. Many persons who fall into the category of "Hispanic" would be included but not necessarily be the majority. Many could be undereducated but not necessarily the majority.
I believe that the majority of the illegal aliens currently in the USA are good people who have been misguided in their attempts to enter the country. I believe they share many of our values such as love of family, God, and country. You must be aware that among these good people there have been many who do not share these values and in fact are in our prisons because they have been convicted of crimes or are being sought because of crime. Demonstrators have shown that they do not share love of this country above their love for their home country. You must also know that we are currently fighting terrorism throughout the world. We do not want terrorists to come across open borders into our country.
You oppose a program which would allow persons from other nations to apply for guest worker status. You are attempting to hurt our nation at the same time you are demanding that our nation recognize rights for people who, although present in our nation, are not willing to follow the laws of this nation.
You have a "right" to voice your opinion, but you are "wrong" for America.

Immigration
Much has been spoken for and against the presence of illegal aliens in the US. Michelle Malkin writes about those American citizens who were killed by an illegal alien. President Bush states "we're talking about human beings, decent human beings that need to be treated with respect."
Obviously, both are right in part. Many have entered the US to find a better way of life. Many have entered the US to disrupt our better way of life as common criminals, to take over all or a portion of our land as reconquest or to kill us all because we do not practice their type of religion.
We are reminded that we are a nation of immigrants and that this has been the basis of our strength--one out of many.
I accept the immigration of persons from varying backgrounds who want to become Americans. I want our borders protected to prevent illegal entry of all, specifically those who do not wish to join our national family but to do harm in some way. I believe that respect for our laws against illegal entry or overstaying a legal and time limited entry permit is a key ingredient for becoming a citizen.
The need for "guest workers" is touted as a true need for our economy. What I have not heard is how these "guests" will be treated as far as compensation. Will they continue to receive substandard wages so they undercut Americans who would willingly work at menial jobs if paid a decent wage? Will the "guests" have protections such as insurance if they are injured on the job or will they continue to be dependent on publicly funded social programs? Will current laws against employing illegal, undocumented persons be enforced or simply forgotten? We hear that fines, back taxes etc will be demanded as a means for illegal aliens to become documented as "guest workers". What will be their status as far as Social Security is concerned? Will they become eligible even though they never attain citizenship?
Is the "guest worker" program truly humane in the ways the guests will be treated?
Is the guest worker program humane as it affects Americans who are undereducated and unskilled?
Issues such as guest worker status and the appropriate level of immigration are controversial, causing dissent within ideological factions. Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and John Cornyn (R-TX) and Representative James R. Ryun (R-KS) are advancing a proposal that should unite warring factions and help to strengthen our country.A Possibly Unifying Immigration Proposal: "I take this oath solemnly, freely, and without any mental reservation. I absolutely and entirely renounce all allegiance to any foreign state or power of which I have been a subject or citizen. My fidelity and allegiance from this day forward are to the United States of America. I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution and laws of the United States, and will support and defend them against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I will bear arms, or perform noncombatant military or civilian service, on behalf of the United States when required by law. This I do solemnly swear, so help me God."

I believe that respect for our laws against illegal entry or overstaying a legal and time limited entry permit is a key ingredient for becoming a citizen.
The need for "guest workers" is touted as a true need for our economy. What I have not heard is how these "guests" will be treated as far as compensation. Will they continue to receive substandard wages so they undercut Americans who would willingly work at menial jobs if paid a decent wage? Will the "guests" have protections such as insurance if they are injured on the job or will they continue to be dependent on publicly funded social programs? Will current laws against employing illegal, undocumented persons be enforced or simply forgotten? We hear that fines, back taxes etc will be demanded as a means for illegal aliens to become documented as "guest workers". What will be their status as far as Social Security is concerned? Will they become eligible even though they never attain citizenship?
Is the "guest worker" program truly humane in the ways the guests will be treated?
Is the guest worker program humane as it affects Americans who are undereducated and unskilled?
Issues such as guest worker status and the appropriate level of immigration are controversial, causing dissent within ideological factions. Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and John Cornyn (R-TX) and Representative James R. Ryun (R-KS) are advancing a proposal that should unite warring factions and help to strengthen our country.A Possibly Unifying Immigration Proposal: "I take this oath solemnly, freely, and without any mental reservation. I absolutely and entirely renounce all allegiance to any foreign state or power of which I have been a subject or citizen. My fidelity and allegiance from this day forward are to the United States of America. I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution and laws of the United States, and will support and defend them against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I will bear arms, or perform noncombatant military or civilian service, on behalf of the United States when required by law. This I do solemnly swear, so help me God."

An ugly reality
One of the writer's I admire is Thomas Sowell. He does not rely on rants snd name calling but clearly states his reasoning.

On CNN's "Lou Dobbs Tonight" on Monday, Dobbs was interviewing Nativo Lopez, president of the Mexican-American Political Association about his demand for "full immediate, unconditional legalization for all persons currently in the United States."
Dobbs posed this innocuous question about Lopez's planned boycott, "You're talking about a boycott of all illegal aliens in this country?"
Lopez exploded: "Well, first off, I refute your terminology. You don't say 'kike,' 'patty,' 'WOP,' OK. You don't say 'nigger'! ... You're using language that's offensive to me and offensive to my people! ... You pollute the air every day, Dobbs. ... That language is offensive, it's derogatory, it's denigrating, and don't use that terminology to me again, referring to my people!" Source
Merriam -Webster Dictionary defines ALIEN as relating, belonging, or owing allegiance to another country or government : FOREIGN
and ILLEGAL as "not according to or authorized by law : UNLAWFUL, ILLICIT; also : not sanctioned by official rules (as of a game)"
Not only do many of the ILLEGAL ALIENS choose not to learn our national language, they do not want us to use accurate words in our language.
If I leave these United States and am in another country, I am an alien. If I break the other countries laws concerning my presence in that nation, I am illegal!
These are not racial slurs. Use of accurate terminology does not make me a bigot.

On July 2, the Mexican people will decide whether to elect ultra-leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (known as AMLO) as their next president.
Rumors have abounded for months that Lopez Obrador's campaign is getting major funding from Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. And last month Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz)., a moderate Republican, told several Mexican legislators that he had intelligence reports detailing revealing support from Hugo Chavez to AMLO's Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD).
Lopez Obrador has attacked U.S. attempts to restrict Mexican immigration and will benefit tremendously if Congress alienates the Mexican electorate. A recent survey by John Zogby found that two-thirds of Mexicans feel Americans are racist and biased against them. A harsh shift in U.S. immigration policies could fuel a leftist victory in Mexico. Most observers see feel the race will be between Lopez Obrador and Calderon. While the PAN candidate would be no puppet of the United States, he is fully committed to free market economics and wants a close relationship with our country. Lopez Obrador would be part of the Latin America's new, anti-U.S. left in.

My Open Letter To Congress
Immigration reform without amnesty for those here illegally is vitally important for the security and health of our nation.
I am for legal immigration of individuals who want to become American as demonstrated by their willingness to obey our laws, learn our history and language and assimilate into our national family. I truly admire those who wait years to enter legally and yearn to become true Americans. Immigrants strengthen our nation.
A bill designed to enforce our borders, using and funding all of the technology and manpower needed, must be passed now. The methods of dealing with illegal aliens already present should be carefully considered and not tied to the defense of our borders.
I am against rewarding the illegal aliens with any form of amnesty. Obviously we cannot deport millions of illegal aliens with ease so Congress must come up with policies and laws that will encourage people to return to their home countries to apply through legal steps for immigration to the USA. Increase legal immigration opportunities to allow a diverse cross section of good people to immigrate to include unskilled as well as skilled or highly educated immigrants.
The way to encourage illegal aliens to return home can be accomplished by making
it a felony to be here without documents. This felony will require deportation and make the individual ineligible for a work permit, green card, visa and any hope of a path to citizenship. Entering the US without appropriate documents or remaining here with expired documents will automatically invoke this penalty.. Pass the law, widely announce and explain the law and the date it will be put into effect. Stop granting citizenship to babies born here to parents who are non citizens For those who have dependent children who are citizens, issue work permits with no path to citizenship.. This is humane in that families would not be split up but would not reward illegal entry with amnesty.
Legal extensions of work permits, green cards or visas should be available for just cause but for limited periods of time.
While most Americans believe immigration is desirable, it must be done legally. If they disrespect our laws, in my opinion, they are not the best candidates for citizenship. If we continue to reward illegal immigration with another form of amnesty we will only reinforce the belief that if persons can get into the US and stay long enough they will eventually gain legality through the next amnesty program.
The recent mass demonstrations with placards and flags demonstrating loyalty to other nations show that many are not willing to assimilate and feel the citizens of the USA owe them the perks of citizenship. Unless we control who is in the USA, we will soon have the problems seen in Europe with their unassimilated masses of people.
Any bill dealing with illegal aliens must also include harsh penalties for those who assist in the illegal entry. Humanitarian aid of feeding and temporary housing should not be penalized. Assistance in longer term housing and hiding should be penalized. Employment of illegal aliens should also be harshly penalized.
Zones in which illegal aliens may not be asked regarding the legal status should not be permitted. All government agencies including schools, law enforcement, and social services should be able to ascertain legal status and report any undocumented person to the Immigration Service for follow up. Emergency medical care would be provided, but undocumented persons reported to Immigration.
Documents must be as fraud proof as possible using the appropriate technology to accomplish this. Employers must retain copies of such documents. Social Security Cards must indicate non citizen status. Employers should continue to pay the FISA taxes as they do on citizens in order to prevent them from preferring non citizens to save money. Non citizens would not pay FISA taxes and would be ineligible for any benefits. Federal and state income taxes would be withheld as is done for citizens. IRS filing for refund or additional taxes would be done as it is with citizens.
I am mystified as to why members of congress are hesitant to pass sterner laws such as making the misdemeanor into a felony with some teeth. Why must our nation be soft on illegal immigration? Encourage legal admission, increase numbers of legal slots for immigrants, welcome and assist legal immigrants with civics and language courses but punish those who refuse to follow our laws.
As a voting citizen I will reward those who have the backbone to protect our nation and enforce our laws. I have little respect for members of congress whose priority is re-election and party politics. We need statesmen who first of all protect the interests of citizens and do not pander to those here illegally.

Latinos Plan Nationwide Worker Strike
Latinos Plan Nationwide Worker Strike: "Mexican American Political Association (MAPA) President Nativo Lopez, one of the organizers of the recent protests in Los Angeles that saw at least 500,000 people take to the streets, said the May 1 'day without Latinos� would send a stern message to Washington."
While I support immigration, I want it to follow our laws. It really irks me to see the disrepect for our laws and the stern message a group of illegal immigrants believe they have the right to send to Washington. The more they wave alien flags and demand their rights in our nation, the more opposed I become to allowing them to stay in the USA.

Immigration--My View

Comprehensive immigration reform is definitely needed. I understand the desire of non citizens to live in the United States for the economic and social benefits. I agree that all of our families immigrated at some previous time. I believe the strength of the United States has always been that we welcomed others to join with us as citizens in this great land. Let us then increase the number of legal slots for those who wish to become citizens. Perhaps a path to citizenship for persons who broke our laws to enter the United States is necessary since deportation of all persons here illegally would be difficult, expensive and probably doomed to failure. It seems that the Senate is proposing a method for the persons here illegally to register, pay a fine or back taxes to obtain some temporary permit to stay and work here. They could apply for an extension of the working permit or apply for a green card and begin the path for citizenship. This sounds reasonable in that the government would have the opportunity to find out who is here illegally as well as allow desperate people a chance to live without fear of immediate deportation if they are identified.
Registration for the work permit will give the government time to do background checks to determine if they are worthy of entry.Those who are proven to be unworthy of living in the United States would then be deported.
Increased border security to intercept more persons entering illegally will obviously slow the numbers coming in. Until enough border guards are hired and trained, use the national guard to stop the flow of illegal entry.
A date certain should be determined to make presence in the US without a permit, green card or current visa a felony leading to deportation. This is humane while strengthening our laws. If we do not get to a point where immigration laws are truly strong and enforced, our nation will be overtaken by persons who do not value our history and form of government and have no desire to assimilate. Terrorists, anarchists and common criminals will wreak havoc throughout our land.
Comprehensive immigration reform is definitely needed. I understand the desire of non citizens to live in the United States for the economic and social benefits. I agree that all of our families immigrated at some previous time. I believe the strength of the United States has always been that we welcomed others to join with us as citizens in this great land. Let us then increase the number of legal slots for those who wish to become citizens. Perhaps a path to citizenship for persons who broke our laws to enter the United States is necessary since deportation of all persons here illegally would be difficult, expensive and probably doomed to failure. It seems that the Senate is proposing a method for the persons here illegally to register, pay a fine or back taxes to obtain some temporary permit to stay and work here. They could apply for an extension of the working permit or apply for a green card and begin the path for citizenship. This sounds reasonable in that the government would have the opportunity to find out who is here illegally as well as allow desperate people a chance to live without fear of immediate deportation if they are identified.
Registration for the work permit will give the government time to do background checks to determine if they are worthy of entry.Those who are proven to be unworthy of living in the United States would then be deported.
Increased border security to intercept more persons entering illegally will obviously slow the numbers coming in. Until enough border guards are hired and trained, use the national guard to stop the flow of illegal entry.

An Obituary
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense.Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. - Reports of asix-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge financial settlement.Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner.Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. Educator In Chief
I have watched three days of President Bush talking to the nation. I am energized to post once again as I see President Bush talk both to various citizens and the white house reporters. He has done a good job of explaining his decisions, current concerns and his optimism. The non reporter groups belie the numbers cited in the polls that indicate the majority of the public no longer support the president. A standing ovations is not usual if you have no faith in the speaker. Of the attendees at his speeches and press conferences I could not help but note the civility and quality of the questions asked by the general public. At least some people really want to elicit a truthful response from the questions and not merely attempt to embarrass the president or somehow work their personal agenda into the questioning. My only regret is that the meetings are not aired in prime time when the working public would have a chance to watch. The clips on the news are far too limiting for the viewer to sense the total response of the persons attending the speeches

I have had a link to Betsy's Page in my favorite links for months. When I clicked to read today's post, I got Betsy Page. I went to Google and clicked on her link and again got Betsy Page whick has no posts, just Betsy Page. Author Sam. Why has blogsport given her URL to someone else? An Awesome Experience
As a member of a Soldiers Angels letter writing team, I receive many positive responses from our military. In fact, I have yet to receive a letter complaining about serving in Iraq. The following are excerpts of a letter I received.
"Thank you so much for the letter. I have received letters, cards and a box from many soldier’s angels. Each time I hear from a soldier’s angel it brightens my day and renews my faith that America still cares.
In my dealings I have been able to meet many Iraqis and speak directly with them about their individual situations. Through this contact, I see that bringing freedom to these people was the right thing to do. It is an awesome experience to be a part of a life changing experience for a whole nation of people. I pray that God helps them stay on the right path."

Semantics And Polls
I saw a clip on TV of Dr. Dean castigating President Bush for lying to the American people that he did not know the levees might be BREACHED. President Bush had been informed that there was a possible danger of the levees being OVER TOPPED, indicating that if the lake filled too much, the water could potentially flow over the top of the levees. Dr. Dean is an educated man and surely knows there is a vast difference between flowing over the top of the levee and the levee actually developing holes which allow vast amounts of water to flow through the breach as opposed to flowing over the top. He demands truth from the president, calls President Bush a liar while he himself is unable to speak truthfully.
Much ado about sagging polls which indicate public support for the Bush Administration is falling. Strange that the even lower poll numbers of the congress is barely mentioned. The Democrats practice obstructionism instead of offering what might be better solutions to problems. The Republicans lack courage to lead. There are times when I think we should elect a totally new congress despite some individuals who may have Americas best interests at heart--as opposed to the majority who seem to hold their own interests and views as more important than what the electorate wants. Two things I would like to see is term limits for congress and that their extravagant retirement program would be scrapped with Social Security being their retirement package. Perhaps then, they would function in the best interests for Americans and fail to gain so much personal power through longevity.
I for one continue to support our President. All his decisions may not please all of the people, his public relations people may fail him too often but he is our elected leader and he keeps working. How many of us would be able to function with all of the hateful rhetoric which never lets up?

Port Security?
I admit to being alarmed at the news of our port security being turned over to tha AE company. Now, as information comes out, it appears to be just another political storm that allows those who want to be in the forefront of news to bask in publicity rather than present the truth. This is not the first time a port is to be managed by foreign based companies. Security is not changing. The U.S. will remain in control of security.We will still establish rules and policies pertaining to security and our Coast Guard and Customs Service will provide it. American longshoremen will continue to perform their jobs as in the past when the firm from Britain managed the ports.
Who in America knows better the level of cooperation our government ( homeland security,intelligence and military services) has received from the leaders in the Arab Emirates? Why did the all knowing politicians wait to bring this months old negotiation of sale to the American public? If the investigation by the various government departments followed the congressional rules pertaining to foreign business, why are congressional leaders in an uproar?
I know the AE had citizens involved in anti-American activites including some involved in the 9/11 attacks. Does this mean we must tar the entire country with the same brush? Should we now alienate the people who have been cooperating with our government? This makes as much sense as alienating an entire city or state in the USA because it has been determined that some inhabitants and citizens have plotted against our national interest.

A Good Question
TUNKU VARADARAJAN reports "On Tuesday, Antonio Villaraigosa, the Democratic alcalde (or mayor) of Los Angeles, delivered to his city a "Respuesta al Estado de la Nación"--a response in Spanish to President Bush's State of the Union address. Why not a gay response? A Teamster response? A vegan response? A gangsta response? Outlaw Lobbyists aka I Can Dream Can't I?
Lobbyist Jack Abramoff will plead guilty to corruption and other charges in a plea deal, He is one who has been caught in dishonest dealings. How many lobbyists from both parties are guilty of using favors, campaign finance, trip expenses etc. in order to sway our elected congress members. Outlaw lobbyists and allow campaign donations to be given only by those individuals who have a legal right to vote for or against a candidate. Representative candidates would raise money in their own district, senators in their own state and federal office holders from a national committee. Lobbying in Washington would cease and the elected officials would be beholden only to their own district or state. They would look to the people they represent to support a vote on matters at hand. This would return the right of self government to the people who live in the area the congress person represents. Big money would only effect the outcome in the district, state in which they are eligible to vote. It would cut down on the endless temptation for congressional leaders to vote according the the lobbyists to garner perks and listen to their own voters if they want to be re-elected. Those who support a particular cause now being touted by lobbyists would be limited to presentation of their views to the nation and encouraging voters to contact their elected officials as a way of gaining support for their views. They can do mailings, local or national TV etc as a means of enticing voters to support their cause. The voters would then have some power to hold candidates to their promises to be responsive to their constituents instead of the bearers of favors of any and all types.
